“Open 1.5 years and NEW!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

For years, we have encouraged Marriott to expand its presence in the Florida Keys!

The "old Key Largo Marriott" is so tired, and glad to know there is a new Courtyard in Largo.

We own vacation property in the Keys, and fly into Palm Beach; we highly recommend the new Courtyard in Homestead!

We had a new, large room, which appeared more Marriott than Courtyard.

Courtyard by Marriott Miami Homestead is a best bet for the Everglades, the Keys, and southern Florida.

We like the design; we hate the lack of central air.

The "bistro" might be ok when there is not a group of guys drinking beer, and filling the lobby w noise.

The lobby seems European inspired - gone is the ancient check in counter.

We had a beautiful enthusiastic young clerk, and she made our day.

We asked for a nearby restaurant, and she recommended Casavana directly across the street.WOW! What a great dinner and breakfast.

We always enjoy our Cuban, Latino, Hispanic friends, as well as their culture.

Courtyard by Marriott Miami Homestead rates an A+ and we can see a visit to this property several times a year.

Room Tip: Nope, no secrets!

We stayed two nights in this new hotel while visiting the Everglades. We were delighted by the clean and spacious room. After staying in a more expensive, mouldy little resort in the Keys on our previous evening, this was a welcome change. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was most appreciative that the restaurant could accommodate my gluten sensitivity for breakfast. This made a great start to the day. It is a terrific location for those wanting proximity to the glades and Miami airport. I would definitely stay here again.

Florida City and Homestead are the best locations for visits to the eastern part of Everglades National Park; that is the part centering on the "Main Park Road" which runs from the outskirts of Florida City through the park to the end of the road at Flamingo. Since there are no accommodations (except for campgrounds) inside the park, the hotels and motels of these two (contiguous) towns are the alternatives. Incidentally, in our opinion, taking a "slog" or "wet walk" into the Everglades with a National Park Service ranger or volunteer is one of the best ways to experience the park, so we've come to strongly prefer properties which have coin laundries for guests; the inconvenient aspect of slogging is that shoes, socks and slacks can get very muddy, so it's nice to be able to wash and dry them at the end of the day! The Courtyard has one, and it's reasonably priced as hotel coin laundries run.

The first things one notices about this Courtyard is its sleek designs, in public spaces and guest rooms, often more reminiscent of an urban "boutique hotel" than of a mid-range motor hotel. The attractive lobby includes a number of public computers and, for those who remember the concept of printed matter, a good, and eclectic, selection of books which are actually for reading, not just decoration. The titles included volumes on the area, both photographic and text.

The danger of a highly styled property is that sometimes form may interfere with function and, unfortunately it does here in some ways. A small example: units are equipped with refrigerators and microwaves, housed in attractive cabinetry. Unfortunately, the opening for access to the microwave is through a very tight opening that makes it quite hard to actually use the microwave, especially as it's a very light-weight one which wants to slip away deeper into the cabinet when you try to open the door. The mini-refrigerator may be one of the smallest you've ever seen, with absolutely minimal capacity. None of these matters were serious enough to significantly lower our rating of this property, but they were minor annoyances. Another issue is that, unlike many other competitive chains, Courtyards by Marriott have held out and still do not offer free breakfasts or lobby hot beverage service. Next to the Marriott in a building by the same developers, I was told, is a Hampton Inn. Similarly priced, it does offer a free breakfast and continuous hot beverages available in the lobby.

So, why rate it "Very Good" in the face of the above? Because the staff at check-in and check-out were incredibly friendly and efficient; because our bed was one of the most comfortable we've enjoyed in a hotel;

Thank you for your recent review on the Courtyard Miami Homestead. We certainly appreciate the multitude of information you shared, and look forward to serving you in the future! I do apologize about some of the design elements you had brought forth such as the ease of using the microwave and refrigerator. Please know that the only way we grow and get more successful is because of our guests- and we will pass this on to the correct parties. Many thanks – and we hope to see you back soon for some more “slogging” through the Everglades National Park.

We stayed here for a wedding in the summer of 2012, we booked a ONE BEDROOM SUITE, because we were traveling with our daughters. We were so disappointed, because it was all one room! We checked with the front desk to make sure we hadn't received the wrong room type by mistake, because it looked more like a studio... and was quite small. The front desk told us that we'd received their one bedroom suite indeed, however I couldn't have disagreed more! We were stuck for three nights in the smallest "suite" I'd ever seen in my life! Unfortunately, there were no other options for us to move to a different hotel, so we suffered through it!

I pointed out to the front desk clerks that their description of the room was really misleading, and needed to be changed. They assured me that they would take care of it, and speak to the higher ups at the property to get it changed. Well, today I happened to be looking at the Marriott website, and noticed that they STILL have not addressed the problem, and it still shows that they have a ONE BEDROOM SUITE, even though it is not a separate living room, and bedroom.

I decided to post this review, so that hopefully someone else won't have the same disappointment we had, if they needed the room separation, or additional space, because this room is definitely not a one bedroom!

Aside from that, the rooms are really pretty, the property is clean, and nicely decorated... and, the employees are really nice and friendly.

Room Tip: DO NOT book a one bedroom here if you need a separate closed off bedroom, because it is all in one o...

Thank you for your recent review of the Courtyard Miami Homestead. I wanted to take a moment to personally apologize about your experience. Our suites are in fact 1 bedroom, but we can see where it would be easily taken as having a bedroom and a living area separate. While we do wish for all of our guests to receive top notch service – we understand that we have not met your expectations. We apologize for this. I see your last stay was back in 2012- I sure hope you come back to see us. I will in the meantime review the verbiage on our website to determine options for change.

So glad that we reserved a room here. The layout is perfect for a short stay. It's about 5 miles from the entrance to the Everglades. Several restaurants are nearby but the Courtyard also has a nice bistro restaurant, though a little pricey.

For every traveler out there this Hotel is the what they are hoping for when they pull up to every Hotel that they book sight unseen. The staff was very friendly and professional, the main rooms lovely and the Hotel rooms spacious, everything working and Clean for the New standard of clean in Hotels. It was a lovely stay!
Only issue was the shower head which was so high I could not reach it and we could not adjust it to work properly but overall one of the best hotels we have stayed in for the money and we have visited 47 countries and 49 states. Thanks Marriott!!

It is always fantastic to see a guest so satisfied after leaving the Courtyard Miami Homestead. Our guests are top-notch, and you all take so much time to let us know how we are doing, we appreciate that! As far as the shower heads, I will bring this to the attention of our chief engineer to see if there is any accommodation that can be made when this situation occurs. We always use our guests’ comments to enhance our service factor, and ensure a top 10 performance on every level. We are certainly excited to see you had a wonderful time with us- thank you again for your lovely review!

After the Keys we headed toward the Everglades. We decided to stay close to the southeastern end and since it was still high season, decided to try a Priceline bid again and got this very modern, clean nice place for $106. It's near the Florida Turnpike but the traffic noise is not audible inside the hotel, because of the modern construction which is nicely insulated. We were able to keep the AC fan on (which is not always possible in many places) which gave us a white noise background to eliminate any occasional sound getting through the windows. It has an attractive restaurant with reasonable prices but only OK food. Very nearby are some good eating choices including the fabulous take-out vegie pizza we had from from Portobello just west of the turnpike.
The modern interior of the hotel is very pleasing with great colors, fresh carpets, and interesting art. The room was extremely clean, had tastefully modern decor, and was large and nicely laid out. The rooms have a modern flat screen TV and 2 comfy queen beds with lots of pillows and an extra blanket for those who like us like a slightly chilly sleeping temperature. Like many recently constructed hotels, our room had a large bathroom with an extra large sink surface for ditty stuff. There was a great walk in shower with extra shelves for products, although as expected at a "functional" hotel like this the products themselves were mid-quality. The entire hotel felt welcoming and cheery with bright large hallways and an open bright lobby with very nice staff.
WiFi is free with no password needed, and it was exceptionally easy to get logged in and get working with their strong signal, high-speed internet. I think they conceive of themselves as a business or short stay hotel because the exercise room is quite small with limited equipment, and the pool is also small but actually an OK pool for laps.
The best internet rate for the hotel was $139, Our Priceline bid of $106 was for a 3-star hotel, but we did need to go north of Key Largo to make this bid work. In less crowded territory off the beach there are other niceties like no extra charges and free parking on the grounds. It's not on the beach but might be one of best deals to have as a base for southern Florida exploration. As with most Marriotts, there is not a free breakfast, but lots of coffee shops and breakfast choices nearby.

Room Tip: No bad choices. We had a room on the highway side and still had minimal noise although we kept the A...
