“Great food. Terrible Service.”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

The management is apparently suffering from a self righteous disease. Made prejudice remarks in the presence of several people and caused a huge scene. We weren't sure what caused this man to treat people so poorly, but it was truly disappointing considering the food there is so great and the atmosphere is so relaxed... unless you have to deal with this man / tyrant. We will never go there again.

“Food just okay, Staff not very friendly...”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

We stopped here for some lunch on our way out to the Everglades. Firstly the place is very small and there's not much room to move around. Secondly, when you walk in, there is no greeting of any kind and you are just kinda waiting there for someone to acknowledge you. When finally I was acknowledged, the young girl behind the counter took my order with about as much enthusiasm as a rock. She was unable to process my credit card, when it worked just fine everywhere else I went that day, so I had to pay cash. There were several other people in there that seemed to be visiting, and everyone seemed more concerned with the visitors than with the customers.

It cost me $16 for 2 sandwiches, that were just okay. I guess they corner the market, since there is nothing else between them and the Everglades, but in the future, I think I’ll turn around and go back into town to grab our lunch instead.

“Gator was WAY too chewy and tough!!”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Four of us went to the Gator Grill outside of Homestead based on the very positive reviews here on TA. I often consult TA when in a new area and have found the ratings to be pretty accurate. BUT this was an entirely different story! The Gator Grill is listed as #2 of 46 restaurants in the Homestead area, and we completely disagree. Many of the reviews talk about how tender the gator (which is their specialty) was. We had all four of their gator offerings - the gator sandwich, tacos, basket, and kabob - all about $10 each. While the flavor was nice and a bit spicy, we were totally shocked by how chewy and tough the gator was in all the dishes. We all had a piece or two that was totally inedible. Possibly it was a bad day or a bad gator, but boy, were we disappointed. We've all had gator before and no one recalled it being so tough, so something was definitely wrong. We also tried their soup of the day which was Caribbean chicken vegetable. It was quite spicy (only two of us could eat it), but was nicely flavored and at least the chicken in it was tender. This is the first time that our experience at one of the highly rated TA restaurants has been so far off! Also be aware that most of the seating (except for a few counter seats) is outside on picnic benches (which were not very clean and had a lot of ants). It would not work in inclement weather! .

“Fun setting - was expecting more "meat"”
Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

it's a must do after a trip in the Everglades. I was expecting bigger portions, particularly for the gator, but it's ok to get a flavour of how it tastes. fun setting with tables outside. A bit long the waiting-we waited for 40mins for 2 sandwiches and 1 gator basket.
