“Beautiful home of history”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

A glimpse into the life of a wealthy family from Beaumont's past. There are different kinds of tours depending on the time of year the carriage house is included. The rose garden is fabulous and be sure to ask about and see the 2 historical trees on the property. There is a herb/vegetable garden as well that is "giving back" to the community. At Christmas it is decorated and there is a designated day for photos in the front.

“Beautiful Piece of History”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

I've had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time at the McFaddin-Ward house and yet, some how, continue to love it. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the house itself is, well, wonderful. If you do visit, make sure to check out the rose garden (if in season) and the Carriage House. Great piece of history!

“Age discrimination”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We attempted to tour the home. We were impolitely greeted, told a brief oral summary of the house then told they will not allow children under 8 to tour the home. We abruptly left since our children are 7 and 8. I am appalled that they think children are so "careless" on a guided tour that they can't control themselves for a few moments.

Dear Maria P,

Gosh, you wrote this review so long ago, but I'm new here and want to respond. First, I am sorry you left with ill feelings about our museum. You are correct when you say our rule is to only allow visitors 8 years and older in our Historic House. I wish that weren't the case, and frankly, I probably would've bent the rule slightly because your youngest child was 7, but unfortunately, the person on duty that day was only following our policy.

Please allow me to explain that policy.

The museum is exclusively filled with priceless items belonging to the family that owned the home which is very unusual for some Historic Home Museums. Most of the collection is irreplaceable. We don't even allow visitors to walk on the rugs because of the wear and tear. Some of the rooms are smaller and somewhat crowded. One mistake and a vase or lamp could be accidentally knocked over and broken. I honestly believe it is better to have the policy in place than for a guest to feel terrible that their child broke something that cannot be replaced.

You came from far away to see The McFaddin-Ward House Historic Museum. Perhaps you have family here and will visit our area again. Since your children are well within the age to take the tour, I would love to show you our lovely home and personally give you the history behind it. I hope you will understand the reason behind our rule and allow us to have another shot at a tour, on me!

“Living high on the hog - worth the stop”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Very nicely furnished, in what were were told are authenic furnishings. We've seen many houses from San Francisco to Tornonto to New Orleans This one ranks right up there and reminds me of the Moody Mansion in Galveston (the architecture is much different, but the lifestyle and period reflected is very similar). Definite worth spending an hour or so touring tye house.
