“Lots of fun, but...”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

On a cold or rainy day with nothing to do in Naples, this is a great diversion. You have to enjoy it for what it is: a novelty with average food. Tacky is good here. The wait staff is homegrown, friendly and inviting. The food is decent, although I disagree that the crab cakes are good - I'm from Maryland and have tasted a lot better. They were out of the alligator ribs, but the bites are a little chewy but OK. Very expensive, though, for what you get. Loved the idea of opening several coolers to see what beer is available. Be sure to check hours and days of operation - it's not always logical.

“Too late for dinner”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

We stopped here for dinner only to find they close at 5 every day! It was just before 5 when we entered, were told to grab a beer from the cooler and we seated ourselves at a table. When were asked for menus we were advised the kitchen was closed but we were welcome to have a beer while they cleaned! Ha! What a hoot. Nonetheless, we loved this place. Typical locals gathering place where the cook joined the guests when the kitchen closed. We will be back to sample the food some time soon.

“Relaxed place to grab lunch on Route 41”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Joanne's is really the only non-touristy place we found to grab lunch on the long drive across the top of the Everglades (in my case from Florida City to Naples). We dropped in knowing nothing about it, but instantly fell in love with the easy-going charm of the place. An aging couple were playing live music on the saxophone, drinks could be grabbed from the open cooler and the service was charming.

Don't come here looking for quick service, it isn't a McDonald's and they take their time to deal with you, but when you do get served expect good and personal. "I wouldn't order that," the waitress said of my first choice - a pulled pork sandwich - "I wouldn't say it was exactly fresh". Suprised to come across real advice from a waitress at last (my experience in the US is that servers tend to act servile) I followed her advice and got the catfish sandwich instead, which was absolutely delicious.

The food isn't Michelin starred, but it's not microwaved garbage either and makes for a good, satisfying and authentic stop off. I'd consider it a must-see if you're doing the Route 41 alligator run.

“Very expensive for what you get”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Neat little place on HWY 41 and not much to stop at to eat once you get on your way to the everglades.
However i thought $125 for lunch for 4 adults and 2 kids was a bit much. I really thought it was too much when they charge a 20% gratuity on groups of 6 or more we were 4 adults, 6 year old and a 2 year old (that they charged $10 for a single hotdog). PLUS you serve yourself your own drinks when you go in - you grab a beer out of the coolers on the floor. Service was very layed back.
Was neatly decorated inside and cool that they had a live gator living in the water in the back yard.
I would have recommended again but felt very ripped off being charged the gratuity and lunch prices. if you want to charge for service you should really offer it.

“Crab, crab and more crab”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Loved the big crab cake, every bite. It was the size of a pancake on a bed of fresh salad and was delicious. My three friends had never tried soft shell crab which was delivered as it should be with all the legs still on. They hated it but that doesn't say much, they were naive about them. The key lime pie was nice, we enjoyed our meal out in the middle of nowhere. (approx1 hour south of Ft. Meyers down FL41...)
