Chisos Mountains Lodge

Typical national park lodge. We stayed in the cottages above the main lodge. Very nice, large and cozy. Beds were a bit small and short but not bad sleeping under the stars. Walking distance to the lodge for dining or store. Restaurant was fine, nothing fancy, but burgers are good. Very nice staff. Great views!

If you want to stay in the park and avoid the 30 mile drive into the park for several days, this is the best option to camping. The room in the small " cottage" was clean and reasonably comfortable. The bed was small and a little bouncy but what else can you expect in a NP accommodation? The restaurant was adequate. Decent breakfast- both buffet and a la carte. The dinners were ok too--stick to the simple things (tacos, salad). The fish was not fresh tasting. We loved BBNP and were disappointed to have to leave because of the govt shutdown but would definitely stay here again.

Fortunately people don't visit Big Bend National Park to stay in a five-star resort. The Chisos Mountain Lodge is the only accommodation inside the Park so you have to accept it for what it is. We stayed in Rio Grande Motel units which are small but clean and comfortable. Even-numbered rooms have views of parking lot (not so great) but also of the sunset through the Window (very great). It is very dark here at night (on purpose so you can enjoy the stars) so take a flashlight when you go out at night. Small complaint: No glass or plastic glasses in the room; only styrofoam cups for coffee. As I cannot stand to drink wine from styrofoam, I bought a plastic wine glass in the Lodge General Store (I learned later that glassware is available for purchase in the lodge gift shop.). The restaurant has improved greatly since our last visit several years ago. There is the standard hot breakfast buffet and you can also order off of the menu. The omelettes were delicious. Dinner was surprisingly good, including a short wine list with some interesting choices. If you keep your expectations reasonable low, you won't be disappointed with the Chisos Mountain Lodge.

Spent 4 nights with small (8 people + guide) tour group – we all stayed in Bldg. B. The rooms were spacious, each with 2 double beds, refrigerator & microwave. There was no phone or TV or wi- fi in the room. Room was clean, serviced daily and pleasant. Lodge itself provided a few places for wi-fi and the food in the lodge dining room was OK – we ate there 3 of the 4 days. Buffet breakfast had a wide variety of goodies. Local store well stocked and, much to my surprise, reasonably priced. It is a fine place with wonderful outdoor vistas and ability to see the clear night sky with multiple planets and stars. Good place to stay

We enjoyed spending 4 nights here on our honeymoon this week. Nice to sleep with the breeze blowing through the room. Only complaints we have is the beds weren't comfortable and they have no TVs. I understand the reason for no TVs as it's nice to get away from it all, and we knew it going in, but after a day of hiking it's nice to unwind. Their TV/DVD players cost you $10/night which would be nice if they just offered them free for those who wanted them. But there is nowhere like this in the park to stay, it is awesome.

Room Tip: Room 103 is the most rented room in Texas. Or try the Emory Peak Lodges, same price yet nice than t...

We really enjoyed our trip here. We stayed in room a6 in block a which had the best view of any hotel room I have ever stayed in! The room was comfortable if a little small but the view made up for it!
The restaurant was good and ranger Rob gave a very interesting talk about the park. There is so much to see here and the park is wild with lots of views and animals. The only disappointment was that we didn't see any havelinas !!

Room Tip: Top floor a block

Just spent 4 days at the Chisos Mountain Lodge. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. It was small, but clean. At night it is very quiet. The lights are not overly bright and that encourages the animals to come out and walk around while you are sitting outside. The dining room has a pretty good menu considering they have to have all of the food brought in from a long distance. The personnel at the lodge are all very nice and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: If you have any physical issues, when booking a room be sure and let them know. It is difficult to...
