“Enjoyble stay and great views”

We spent one night in the lodge, in a motel like room with two double beds. Room was clean and comfortable - nothing fancy but the location and view were incredible. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the lodge restraunt. Service and food was excellent and you have a beautiful view of "The Window". I found the prices to be very reasonable. I would definitely stay there again.

Awesome views in every direction...restaurant food good with extra friendly staff. This our favorite place to stay when visiting the park never disappointed. We hiked Balance mountain and it was breath taking with spectacular panoramic views, it wasn't too difficult either.

We spent two nights at the Chisos Mountain Lodge during our visit to Big Bend National Park. The lodge is in a great location, in the Chisos Basin surrounded by mountains all the way around. We stayed in the Rio Grand Motel Rooms. It was a nice motel style room with two double beds. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Having stayed in quite a few national park lodges, this was what I expected. The room was not beautifully decorated or full of frills, but it was comfortable and the location was tremendous. The price was consistent with other national park lodges. As I like to say, if you rate your hotel stays by the interior decoration and amenities, skip the national park lodges. If you want a good place to sleep in a great location, you'll be happy here. The Chisos Mountain Lodge has a good restaurant and it is reasonably priced compared to the restaurants at many of the national park lodges. We enjoyed two dinners at the restaurant. They had a very good breakfast buffet. They also offer sack lunches that can be ordered in advance and picked up in the morning to take with you. All of the staff that we encountered during our stay were helpful and friendly. There is also a small camp store located near the lodge, as well as a park visitor center. There are many hiking trails that originate from the lodge area. Overall, this was a great stay. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed a the lodge in mid March 2013. It's beautiful drive in. "The Window", as the view is called provides a gorgeous view out of the basin and into the valley. The rooms were clean and nice with everything working. There is a restaurant at the lodge that provides very good meals. We ate dinner and breakfast there and both were good. We entered the Big Bend area from the west through Presidio and exited to the north through Alpine to Marathon. All roads were fine and no problems were encountered. Lion and bear warnings abound, but we didn't see any. We din't go hiking though. Most hikers seemed to be carrying mace and air horns. Don't know if that works. We stayed in the "B" rooms which have a nice view into the brush. Good experience overall. Definitely will try to go back, again in either the spring or fall. Even then, nights are really cold. Take flash lights - a must!.

Room Tip: Per above, we stayed upstairs in the "B" area rooms and we liked them for the niew into th...

My girlfriend and I stayed here for several nights during our Christmas break in 2012. I liked this place, but one issue was with the price which was about $123/night. For those who wish to save money, I would recommend using the nearby campsite which we stayed at for one night too. The campsite actually had clean facilities which seems to be a rare thing these days. Also, be careful about drinking the water here (even in the hotel) as it is different from what we were used to. We were told most people don't have issues, but both my girlfriend and I got sick while we were here and ended up buying bottled water.

The location certainly is beautiful especially during sunset and sunrise. The nearby trails offer excellent views and there is something for hikers of all skill levels. On Christmas Day, the cleaning staff left candy and small gifts in our room which was a nice token. We ate at the nearby restaurant one night which was reasonably priced and had pretty good food.

In short, this is a place with nice views and good if you enjoy hiking. No need to stay more than a few nights though. We also did the Outer Loop after our stay here for those who like multi-day hiking.

This is the only place to stay in Big Bend National Park, unless you camp. Set in the Chisos Basin, surrounded by rugged peaks, your view from some rooms and at every meal in the restaurant is spectacular. The staff is friendly for the most part. Recent improvements include a bar/wifi haven next to the restaurant, and a broader menu and much better chef from our last trip in 2011. Rooms are comfy with fridges, coffee makers and microwaves. Nothing fancy though, and although wifi in some rooms was mentioned, that is more a wish than a reality. Some rooms are noisier than others, so check with staff when you reserve. There is a convenience store, a gift shop, and a visitors center. We saw javalinas, and deer nearby. Several notes: when the guidebooks say the hike is strenuous, believe them! And don't miss the Rio Grande Nature Trail--a beautiful oasis in the Chihuahuan desert, with wonderful views of the Rio Grande.

We did not stay at the Lodge, but we dined here twice, each time after ending one our hikes. The wait staff is friendly, all college-aged, and while the dining isn't exactly five-star, it's so much better to have someone else prepare your food when you're tired than having to go back to camp and eat something from a can or having to prepare it yourself.

We had dinner after Santa Elena Canyon trip, my husband ordered fettucine alfredo and I was so cold I had beef vegetable soup and salad from the salad bar. The only thing was my husband's pasta came out suspiciously early, so it makes me think it's was pre-packaged or something. But still, it was a comforting dinner after a 5 mile hike in the cold desert.

We also had lunch here after a strenuous hike up Emory Peak. Husband had the turkey club, which was huge and satisfying for him, and I had the black bean burger with carrot and celery sticks. After eating, we got some souvenirs from the gift shop before leaving the park.

I love the outdoors but I hate all the work involved in camping, so I would recommend getting your meals in at the Lodge and use the rest of your time to enjoy the trails and activities of Big Bend.
