“Town is not so great, but this hotel IS great!”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

I stayed here for four nights while on business in the nearby town of Las Animas. There is nowhere really to stay in Las Animas, so this was the closest town with a major chain hotel available. La Junta is pretty remote. There isn't much of anything out here, and even finding decent food is a struggle; at least it was for my coworkers and I. We tried the Village Inn and the little Mexican lounge/restaurant near the hotel, and found neither to be that great. But as for the hotel options in town, there is a Holiday Inn Express and this Hampton Inn both on the same main road. I did not stay at the Holiday Inn Express but it looked considerably older than the Hampton. Because of the town being so sparse, I was worried about the quality of the hotel, but let me tell you that this Hampton is fantastic. It is either very new or has been recently re-done. The lobby is very nice and there's a nice lounge and meeting area for people to gather in. There is a selection of coffees available around the clock, which was nice to have. There are free cookies in the evenings and free breakfast in the mornings. The rooms are excellent. The bathrooms have the great updated vanity/sink which is up at a nice counter height, and the beds are (as always at Hampton Inns) super comfortable. The rooms have flat screen televisions (which admittedly could be a little bigger just because the rooms are large and they're far from the beds) and they get all the channels I wanted, and there were no issues with picture quality. There is a mini-fridge and microwave in the room as well. I'll mention that the room I was in had a shower, not a tub/shower, which to me was fine, but some people who insist on having a tub might want to check on that. This is by far the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in for under $100/night. I travel almost weekly and am in hotels more than I am in my own house. I'm very picky. And this place met my expectations, and exceeded them. If you have to come to La Junta, then you have to stay at the Hampton Inn.

Spotlessly clean. Lousy neighbor falls asleep with TV blasting, finally had to call front desk to intervene. Maybe walls should be better insulated. Great room darkening shades. Typical Hampton Breakfast. And, from now on, I hope you join me in publically complaining about the nasty mixed fruit drenched in nasty tasting artificial preservatives (I can taste them). At least most DO have real banana, orange or apple choice. Would love some gluten free oatmeal as an option too. Great staff and can't blame them for the poor choices Hampton Inn corporate chooses for artificial bkft food.

The title says it all, and was actually a lovely surprise. There is some noise from the trains which blow their hooters during the night, but this was not the fault of the hotel and would impact all local hotels.

This seems to be a fairly new property -- very clean and fresh smelling. The room is good sized with a fridge and microwave, flat screen TV with lots of channels, wired Internet (cable included). There were outlets on the lamp on the work desk AND the lamp on the night stand -- very convenient. Cleanliness was great and all the usual comforable Hampton amenities were there (comfy bed, well-equipped bath, hot breakfast)

The motel is west of town on US-50, with other motels and businesses strung out along the highway. There is a Subway, McDonalds, and local Chinese buffet in walking distance, and a Wendy's is a bit farther out of town, by WalMart. There are also a few restaurants and gas stations along the main drag back in town. The railroad is across the highway, so there was some train noise, but that just goes with the territory here.
