There aren't an abundance of dining spots in Los Alamos and many are open only limited hours. We stumbled into town around 2:30pm on a Saturday, starving after a morning of hiking and looking for a good local spot. The Visitors Center suggested nearby Ruby K's (RK).
The restaurant, next to Starbucks in a strip center, reminds one of the Einstein Bros. bagel chain in many ways. Showcase baskets of available fresh bagels start the order line along with a case of refrigerated drinks. The The menu offers a wide variety of fresh bagels and cream cheeses. It also includes a good variety of hot and cold sandwiches, paninis, wraps and made-to-order options with a choice of side. All provided generous portions of quality meat and cheese I could manage only 1/2 of a bagel sandwich. There are also a few soup and salad options, smoothies, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and a kids menu.
The prices run about $1 higher than the nearby Subway, but the quality is well worth it. The huge chocolate croissant was a bargain at about $2.50. An excellent lunch option.
