“Huge reconstructed Kiva, and interesting self guided tour”
Reviewed September 16, 2011

If you can get to Mesa Verde then go there instead - it's so much better, but if not then Aztec ruins is a good, interesting place to visit with a huge reconstructed Kiva you can walk around to get a feel for scale and atmosphere etc. We made the mistake of coming here after Mesa Verde and it paled by comparison, which is a pity because there is a lot to think about here too. Self guided tour is interesting and there is a little museum/information center packed with stuff to browse. It's on the edge of town, with nowhere nearby to get lunch, a snack or coffee etc, so make sure to bring your own.

“Nice and Accessible”
Reviewed September 7, 2011

Aztec Ruins is much easier to get to and much easier to tour than some of the other ancestral sites in New Mexico. They say the great house here contained over 500 rooms and there is a great kiva that was rebuilt to give visitors a true perspective of how they looked in the days that they were used. It's very easy to get around and through the ruins. Well worth a stop.

“Ten steps back into 900 years ago”

Great spot, it's less than a minutes walk from the welco
E centre. There's a slightly dated video to watch first, then you have all the to
E you would like to explore the ruins-one of the more culturally genuine and authentic sites we have visited in our month long trip across the states.

Go and see it!

“Better Than Mesa Verde!”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

We almost did not go here because we had just seen Mesa Verde, and thought this could never compare to that. We are so grateful we took the short drive to see these Aztec Ruins! Our tour guides at Mesa Verde left us with more questions than answers and we had little time to explore the ruins there after the guides did their spiels. But at these Aztec Ruins, the video in the guest center filled in all the blanks for us. The book of info they give us as for the self-guided tour was quite informative. We LOVED it here! Definitely worth a visit & you'll only need about 1.5 to 2 hours! There are some great southwestern family style restaurants nearby too!

“Ancient Civilization Brought Back to the Future!”
Reviewed June 13, 2011

While visiting family in Farmintgon, NM we decided to check out the Aztec Ruins in Aztec, NM. My wife and I have visited other ruins as kids, but haven't taken been as a family with our kids.

The Ranger staff were really nice and offered the Junior Ranger Badges to our kids (educational questions accompany the process to receiving a badge). They were actually excites to get the questions and eager to start!

The ruins themselves were amazing! The stones and wall were really cool. Reading about te culture and getting to actually walk through structures used so long ago! The restored Kiva really was great, the windows that showed the Equinox and Solstice showed how much they knew about the changing seasons and time.

The museum part of the monument had some great artifacts, but was a bit "hokey". In my opinion, it could use some upgrades. Like I said, the artifacts were really great, well worth taking a look.

We really enjoyed our visit and recommend it for entertaining educational family fun, for all ages.
