Description: In June of 1980, when Jay Elowsky was 20 years old, he moved from Bay City, Michigan and started washing dishes for his Aunt Kathy and Uncle Sonny, who owned "Sonny's Pizza" in San Clemente, California. After a year stint at CU in Boulder, he decided the pasta business was where his heart was. So he returned to Sonny's to cook for six more years in order to learn the family recipes that had been passed down to him by his mother, "MaMa Genovese", whose grandmother was the cook for the first King of the United Countries of Italy, Victor Emanuel the Second. In September of 1988, his Mom (Jean) and Dad (Lowell) and Jay opened up Pasta Jay's in Boulder at 9th and Pearl. Now almost three decades later - besides the Boulder eatery there are Pasta Jay's locations in Lone Tree, Moab, and Hays, KS. The Moab location opened in 1992. Generations later we continue to use family recipes to create "food fit for a king"!

“Eating right downtown...where the action is...”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We have enjoyed walking by...people always look like they are having a good time...have eaten there twice and it is only just OK. Had the spaghetti and meat balls, and the pesto pasta...meat balls were great, tomato sauce was a bit strong flavored. The pesto tasted OK but was a blended puree...different that I have every seen. And just tasted OK. I was hoping for fantastic!

Service was friendly, perhaps a bit rushed. My sense is she was finishing up her shift. Could have just told us that.

“Good food but over priced”
Reviewed October 2, 2012 via mobile

The food here was good, found the service to be a bit on the slow side but not enough to make it a big problem. My one gripe though is the fact that when ordering a entree if you want a salad with it you are forced to pay full price for it which is $6 to $7 for a salad that in my estimation was nothing more than a bowl of lettuce and some dressing. They could at least offer the salad at a discount for customers ordering a entree if not including a small one with the meal. I am by no means cheap when it comes to dining. I probably spend $600 to $700 a month dining out. Pasta Jays is not fine dining. The silverware comes wrapped in a paper napkin. Ditch the ala carte menu and maybe people will spend more.

“Very good pizza and gnocchi!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We ate a late dinner here. My husband enjoyed the gnocchi and the rest of us shared a pesto artichoke pizza which was excellent. It was busy and the service wasn't fast but we weren't in a hurry. Would visit again!

“Favorite”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This was my favorite meal during our stay. Was four in our group and we each got something different and all of us loved our food. The service was great. Only down side is the tables are small and really close to each other.

“Quick service, good food”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Staff seemed athletic and knowledgable of areas I wanted to ride my bike, including hundreds of miles away in Escalante, Utah.
