Description: The Broken Oar Restaurant is the perfect Moab dining destination. Our wide variety of homemade food provides a great escape from the usual mass-produced chain food available. Come tap into something cold with one of our many draft beers, which includes a great selection of local brews, or if it's wine that fits the mood, you won't be disappointed as we have a great selection of local and imported wines. Our unique restaurant decor is best described as "cozy mountain cabin" meets "ski lodge." Relax by our stone fireplace in the cooler months or enjoy the warm atmosphere provided by our enormous outdoor deck If you are looking for a great spot to relax after enjoying the variety of Moab's activities, The Broken Oar is your place. The Broken Oar has a casual social atmosphere that is greatly enhanced by the excellent service provided by its staff

We were in town for a family reunion. The Broken Oar allowed us to take over their upstairs. There was about 60 of us. There was two wait staff and many food runners. Our wait staff was Michelle. She did her best. I am sure she is a great server but think she was a bit overwhelmed with the situation.

We started with the caprese salad. My husband ordered the baby back ribs. In Texas they would be called beef ribs but not baby back ribs. I the ordered the medallions au blue.....but think I got the steak medallions as there was no bacon or blue cheese on what I ordered.

They only have beer or wine. An ok place. Food was a bit high for the quality but it is a tourist town. We are grateful they allowed us to take over their upstairs. A decent sit down place in this town.

We really enjoyed this meal. The fries are really good. The food is good and prices are fair. Meal started with salad which was nice. Overall above average food, but nothing special. I would go again as I enjoy a restaurant where the prices are reasonable and the food tastes good. Nothing fancy just good eats.

Should have heeded the advice of some of the reviews here. Instead we took the recommendation of our hotel and came here for dinner.

Arrived at 9pm and were promptly greeted and seated. Taken to the first table right near the door and in full view of the kitchen despite the place being empty. Our waiter came over and asked what we’d like to drink. That would be one of the rare times we would see him.

We asked for two waters, one with lemon. Given two waters, no lemon and no straws. He left without asking if we would like to order. Came back a few minutes later, we ordered two "Medallions Au Bleu" which is on the menu as "2 hand-cut and trimmed tender medallions wrapped in bacon, charbroiled and finished with caramelized onions and topped with bleu cheese crumbles" and served with "skin on red garlic mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable." We were asked how we would like them prepared and we ordered one medium and one medium rare.

Another waiter returned with salad, the lemon and straws.

Then began the 30 minute wait. Our waiter never checked back. No updates on our food. We had other people come in after us, sit upstairs and had their food to them while we sat with clear view kitchen, everyone else's feed going out. Our waiter stared at the window waiting for the food leaning over to look in the kitchen, and back over at us, without ever actually coming over to see how we were doing, if we needed anything, or apologize for the delay. Actually watched him cleaning the metal service window with some chemical cleaner and rag without gloves and then continued about his other duties without washing his hands.

At 9:40p our food came out.

Medium rare steak was medium well. Medium steak was well done. Little seasoning to the meat.

Each steak was not wrapped in bacon, rather a toothpick was keeping the steaks together and a flabby piece of bacon pinned to it.

Bleu cheese crumbles are not heated or melted at all, simply tossed over the food.

The "fresh vegetable" was boiled broccoli without seasoning or butter or sauce.

Caramelized onions had a crazy amount of black pepper on them.

The red skinned mashed potatoes were the highlight.

Again, after dropping off the food, the waiter never checked back. When he saw our empty plates, he came over and asked if we would like dessert. We didn't so he brought the check. Put it on the table without saying a word.

We went a block north for dessert for frozen yogurt and got exactly what we wanted with friendlier more attentive service.

Don't know if and when I'll ever be back in Moab, but I will skip this place next time and recommend you all do the same.

We stayed at the nearby Inca Inn and walked across to this restaurant. It had a good atmosphere and the food was first class. We would certainly recommend this restaurant.
