Owner description: From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . What story will you discover on your visit to Dead Horse Point State Park?

“WOW!”

Easy to see how it got its name. You feel like you are looking down from the stars on to a Red Martian Landscape. (river not withstanding) So much fun to hike and just hangout..

“quiet place, beautiful views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

We started in the morning at the visitor center and did a loop trail (I think Rim ...something). Especially the first part was amazing. I was just the three of us, no others around (much better than the Grand Canyon). It was february but we had beautiful blue skies.
When you get to edge - i like to go pretty close - and look down you get this bizarre rush. Just sitting there and overlooking the canyon is a beautiful experience.

Overall wasn't to impressed with this park. It does have some nice views but it's very small. A park ranger in the visitor center showed us on the map where Themla and Louise drove off the cliff. We could never find it since it's not actually mapped anywhere.

Great small park, one of the best views near Moab. My only gripe is that it costs $10 per day, while nearby Canyonlands & Arches cost the same but for 7 days.
