Owner description: From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . What story will you discover on your visit to Dead Horse Point State Park?

“Amazing Views!”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

It was a really hot day and we were already tired from hiking over the last couple of weeks, but it was well worth our time and energy! It takes a bit of a drive to get to from our launch point (Moab) but once you are there you are in for a treat. Plan for the drive, take a picnic, spend some time at the point basking in the amazing views and it will be well worth your time.

“SO Worth a Quick Stop!”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We stopped by with only about an hour of daylight left on our way back to Moab from the Island in the Sky and it was so worth it!! From our visits to the Grand Canyon, Arches, and Canyonlands it was the only time we got a really good view of the Colorado River and it is a stunning one! Unless you're wanting to hike, the views can be seen in 30 minutes and it really is worth it. And the rangers at the visitor center are really nice and the 10 minute video was really informative.

“Spectacular views”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

We skipped Canyonlands for this park instead, due to a time crunch. We were NOT disappointed by the views. Grand Canyon-esque views awaited us. The history behind this park is also very sad but intriguing. We all enjoyed it. Traveled with two kids under 10 and dogs as well. Great pit stop on the way to Canyonlands too, if I remember correctly. Photographers, bring your wide angle. Awesome views of the Colorado river!

“Mostly Hyped-Can be Avoided”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Based on picture in visitor centre we decided to go this point. In news magzines or travel magzines we have seen beautiful Horseshoe Band and thought this is the place, but it was not close to our expectations.

It is detout while goiging to Canyonlands National PArk. This park is not a part of the National Park System so you have to pay 10 USD.

If you are going to see the Horseshoe Band near Page AZ on Colorado river, this place can be avoided. LAter in out trip we saw the Horseshoe Band near Page and thats the one you see every where.

The vistas will make you think John Wayne or the Lone Ranger is right around the corner. What a beautiful part of the country. I truly enjoyed it
