Owner description: From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . “Worth stopping- Great Canyon View”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Right next door to Canyonlands National Park and worth the short detour. Incredible canyon views from the tip including the winding Colorado River.
Nice visitor center with snack bar and real bathrooms.
Lots to do including hiking and biking but our visit was short.

“Lovely”

It is a small state park where you look down on the Colorado as it travels through the canyon. The best part for us is that we found a picnic bench looking out onto this view and though we were by ourselves. We stayed several hours just enjoying the view, watching ground squirils and ravens and soaking up the sun.

It's just off the main road about 20 minutes and soooo worth the detour. Standing and looking down, up or sideways it has history, character and a lot to tell us. Just listen...

Dead Horse Point State Park was a lot of fun. The actual point is a thing of beauty. Living in NYC you don't see many images like this. Well worth the trip!

“Spectacular Scenery!”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We drove in to this park very briefly en route from Moab to Bryce Canyon. It was well worth the effort. Dead Horse Point is beautiful - the views down over the Colorado simply amazing! Well worth the detour!
