Owner description: From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . What story will you discover on your visit to Dead Horse Point State Park?

Unfortunately it rained when we visited Dead Horse Point.... It's a little far from the entrance, especially when you're in a hurry, afraid to miss the sunset.... But one day I'll go back!! It was very impressive and amazingly beautiful!!

In spite of it's rather tragic history, Dead Horse Point is yet another place of extreme beauty. After admiring the view of the canyons from the point, we hiked the Bighorn trail to a fine viewpoint and enjoyed every minute of it.

This is a nifty state park that you don't want to miss. It's an easy drive from Moab, Utah. The view of the Colorado is spectacular. It also has a nice gift shop and coffee shop, the Pony Expresso.

Well worth a hour or two of your time en route to the Island in the Sky portion of Canyonlands NP. The views were a bit hazy on the September afternoon I went, but I could envisage how spectacular they'd be on a clear day.

The blue pools are from the potash factory in the bottom of the canyon. They detract somewhat from the natural beauty of the scene, but at least the color is a nice blue.

This park can't compare with Arches or Canyonlands, but it is easy to visit if you are already in Moab. It is small and it doesn't take long to see it. it is worth the short side trip especially if you are going to Canyonlands anyway. It is just off the road that takes you into the main part of Canyonlands.
