Super 8 Moab
Ranked #23 of 38 Hotels in Moab
Reviewed June 7, 2014 via mobile

It's a Super 8, so you can't expect a luxury stay. The lobby is old and unimpressive, but the room was big enough for our family of six with three queen beds. It was actually a really large room that was updated, so it was perfectly fine for a one night stay. There is no elevator so that could be an issue for some people. Breakfast wasn't good at all. The price was way too high for this hotel, but it is tourist season so I guess that's to be expected. It is about five minutes to Arches, so that's great. I wouldn't necessarily pick this hotel again, but when you have a family of six, you don't have many choices.

We really enjoyed our trip to Moab and hope to go back, though we likely wouldn’t stay at the Super 8 again. I’d probably go for a cheaper, smaller hotel that doesn't list so many amenities. (We paid for but couldn’t really use most of Super 8’s amenities). Moab is a small town that’s easy to navigate with most everything on Main and Center streets, and has amenities to accommodate its booming tourist economy. For example, there is a great coin operated, 24-hour laundromat that we used when we couldn’t use the Super 8’s laundry facilities.

My husband and I stayed 6 nights at Super 8 Moab in May, 2014. It was a busy place, with 150+ rooms, some of which had 3 queen beds each. It’s a good option if you’re traveling with a group. Its huge parking lot would also be a bonus if you’re hauling an ATV, etc. It’s located on Main Street but really isn’t within walking distance of any restaurants except for Denny’s. The staff was very friendly, as were the other patrons.

Unfortunately, Super 8 Moab seemed really crowded all of the time and it had an awkward layout. It looks like a huge addition was made while the shared amenities were not expanded. For example, the hot tub comfortably holds 4-5 people and filled up fast. The pool was very small. The laundry room had 2 washers and 3 dryers (coin operated) that were always in use. The front lobby housed the continental breakfast and was so crowded that it was difficult to move or turn around, let alone find a seat. Each wing of the hotel did have its own small room with ice and vending machines, though the ice machine closest to our room was out of order during our stay and it was quite a hike to get to the second nearest ice machine.

The continental breakfast was standard budget hotel fare. They had cereal, instant, flavored oatmeal, packaged pastries, frozen waffles, small containers of yogurt, apples and oranges. No hard boiled eggs or sausage as some hotels include in their continental breakfasts.

The Super 8 Moab was certainly the nicest looking Super 8 I’ve come across, and our room was as shown in the pictures online…vinyl floors that look like hardwood and modern design elements throughout. The room was very clean and well laid out. It included a mini fridge, microwave, small coffee pot, and free Wi-Fi.

Still, the hallmarks of a low-end hotel were there (despite the expensive price tag of lodging in Moab). The mattress was hard and the towels were thin and scratchy. Noise was often an issue in our second floor room. Not so much between rooms, but noise from outside coming in through the (closed) window and noise from the hallway coming in through the (closed) door. Every morning we were bombarded by the beeping of people pushing the remote button to unlock their vehicles. I bet the rooms on the ground floor would be much louder. One long side of the hotel had parking spaces only a couple of feet from the first floor windows, while the other side was very close to a fairly busy road.

We also had problems with the key card entry for our room, where it was always a gamble as to whether the card would actually unlock the door. The front desk reset our cards twice saying the strips on the cards are very sensitive and that credit cards, car fobs and cell phones can all damage them. Might be true in the case of this hotel’s key cards, but I’ve never had this issue with other hotel key cards.

It will be helpful to some to know that there is no elevator. The hotel only has two floors, but be sure to request a first floor room if you need to avoid the stairs for health reasons or don’t want to lug heavy luggage up the stairs.

The rooms had been updated but our room was a bit narrower than other Super 8's. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The breakfast area was large enough except at peak hours. Given the location, it was full every night so reservations are a must. If you, like us, are mobility impaired, be sure to request the first floor or an ADA compliant room as the hotel has no elevators. The only issue we had was that the coffee maker had old coffee in it.
Beware that the hotel requires a $100 deposit on ALL rooms transactions ( refundable on
checkout ). This requirement was not mentioned either when the reservations were made nor when checking in. There is a sign on the counter but the desk clerk made no mention of it.

My family and I took a roadtrip to the western side of the US. We drove 22 hours to our first stop: Moab, Utah. We had been having our room reserved there for MONTHS. It had been at least four months since we made the reservation, actually. We had reserved a pretty large room because we were a party of four adults. We'd called a week before to confirm the reservation, as we always do when traveling, and all was well.

The room was reserved for the day we left our house even though we'd arrive at 3 am the next morning, because we'd need a place to sleep right when we got there and if we had made it for the day we'd arrive, we wouldn't have been able to check in until around 3 in the afternoon.
We called the hotel at noon to let them know we'd be there very early in the morning so that they wouldn't give our room away. The person on the phone said they'd write a note so that the person who came in next would know to hold the room because we were NOT "no shows."

We spoke to someone at the front desk again at around 2:30 and everything was fine.

Finally as we're about to pull up to the hotel, we get a voicemail that says they've rented our room to someone else but that they'd found us a room somewhere else and that they were "very sorry for the inconvenience."

When we got to the counter, the man told us they'd given our room away since we'd spoken to them at 2:30. THEY JUST DIDN'T BOTHER TO LET US KNOW UNTIL WE WERE ALMOST THERE. (As a sidenote, the lobby was very ratty. It looked like the inside of a very cheap motel.)
And, get this: the hotel they "found for us" to stay at was another Super 8...in Colorado. Nearly two hours away. They had supposedly called all of the hotels in the area and there were no vacancies. I sat in their lobby and found a room at a Sleep Inn (which was pretty nice, by the way) just down the road.

The manager of the Super 8 was not available until around 8 in the morning. When we called to see what our compensation would be, we were told we "wouldn't be charged for the night. Don't worry." That's it. They did NOTHING to correct THEIR mistake.

Evidently, this is not the first time this has happened at this Super 8, either. Two other people we spoke to had similar experiences. Don't risk it. Stay at the LaQuinta, Sleep Inn, or Archway Inn just down the road.

The rooms were updated, clean, and quiet with comfortable beds. The pool was a bit disappointing because it was so small, and it's not close enough to downtown to walk around. But other than that, we had a great stay.

Not bad. Nice and newly remodeled. Bathroom shower was terrible, and outside of the rooms weren't great. The prices were better there then a lot of other places in town…so the super 8 is was. The continental breakfast left much to be desired…but nobody has great ones really. There were front desk people that were very pleasant and helpful, and others that were not so much. Overall, even though it wasn't the greatest, I would stay again for the price compared to other hotels in town.

Room Tip: Turn your bathroom fan on when sleeping to quiet out hall noise from others loud doors shutting.

Familiar with some Florida Super 8, I was surprised by the quality of this hotel. It is located in the outskirts of town, but, being such a small city, it is still close to everything. Pricey for the chain, but I understand the whole city is
