I've always wanted to come here so on our way to Richmond we stopped. It was late in the day so the tours had stopped but we still enjoyed walking around ourselves. The courthouse is also the visitors center and small museum with a wealth of information. Don't know if they still do but when we were there they had a paper for 5 dollars that explained in newspaper form each month of the war. If your really interested in the Civil war put your money down, it's money well spent. Many other buildings to explore including the McLean house were the war ended. Great experience!

The visit to Appomattox Courthouse and Park was interesting and informative. They had a slide presentation at the Courthouse which gave a nice overview and was a good place to start our visit. The museum gave timelines and information about the troops that made it more personal rather than just factual. The grounds and buildings were well kept up. It was just a really nice way to spends a couple of hours.

This National Park is worth the visit. There is a tour that is definitely worth going on. It takes you in the home where the the Civil war surrender was signed. There are also a couple of videos giving background of the events that took place up to the actual surrender. The park fee is very inexpensive also.

Appomattox Court House National Park is an outstanding attraction for Civil War buffs. It also can be educational and interesting for anyone curious about the Civil War timeframe (1860s) in American history. Attractions include the old Appomattox County Court House (now the Visitor Center), a general store, a law office, and a tavern (with replicas of the printing presses used to print Confederate Paroles after Lee’s surrender). A number of the buildings are original from the 1860s; some are highly accurate replicas. Rooms in the buildings, including slave quarters, are decorated in an authentic manner for that era, so anyone interested in life in that timeframe should find the park illuminating. The highlights for Civil War buffs are the McLean House (reviewed separately), and the displays in the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center also has two very good fifteen minute videos, one shown on the hour and one on the half-hour. The park staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Overall a great park to visit!

This was our first trip to Appomattox so we wanted to see the Appomattox Court House. Our tour was small in size so it was easy for everyone to get close enough to hear our tour guide go through her bad day. She was very knowledgeable but just a little short with any questions. Everyone has bad days so we just took it with a grain of salt.
It was nice to hear how the surrender took place and see some of the artifacts they had there.
If you get a chance I would recommend seeing this place. I would also hope you have better luck making the tour guide laugh than we did.
