The food is really good but the smoke is tough to bare. The parkign can also be an issue. Lunch durring the week will be a safe choice. The french onion soup is awesome!

My wife and I visited Harpers Ferry to see the sights. We decided to have dinner at the Anvil since we remembered seeing it on our way into town.

We often times will visit a new restaurant and order the special since it gives it's a good idea of what a chef or restaurant is really about. I will say that we dine in many great places and that the Anvil SURPASSES the dinners that we've had in some of the more well known establishments in the Baltimore area.

We had a filet served with cornbread and a mouth watering broccoli and tomato mix as well as a chicken breast that was served with a simple mixture of snow peas, mushrooms, and squash. The simplicity of ingredients that the chef used was the hook because the complexity and layers of flavor were spectacular! There was something very one of a kind in the seasoning of the food. The meal had a sophisticated reminiscence of home!

The dining room was very comforting, we especially loved the open ceiling! It felt like we were sitting in the formal dining room of a southern home, our waitress was great!

We've dined in many places, the Anvil has become one of our new destinations!! Kudos to your chef and (Kate?) Our waitress for an absolutely wonderful dinner!

We chose The Anvil for the menu, a dinner with a variety of choices. Not a real broad selection, but enough to have good choices. Atmosphere was just what we wanted. Ordered the strip steak medium-rare, came out without any red. Have to request bread and water with the meal. Crab ball appetizer was very good and would recommend. Not sure if there is a better restaurant in the nearby area.

I would come here even if it wasn't so close to home. The food is great, the people are nice and the atmosphere is terrific. This is a great place to meet fellow locals, eat a fantastic burger (seriously, I don't know what they do differently, but the burgers are great!) and just hang out. Recently, I also booked the party room here and everything was lovely. I received many compliments for picking the place and I didn't even do all the work! Again, Holly was fantastic and made the evening easy for us. The Anvil is known for their crabcakes, but branch out. Everything I've had there is good, even the salad. :o)
There's gambling in the back room for those interested, and they have a full bar.

We had a tasty meal here -- not sure why the rating isn't higher! The shrimp and crab putanesca was great, and our waitress was fantastic.
