River Riders is awesome! We took 6 adults and 14 Girl Scouts to the Aerial Adventure Park on 6/8 and had a blast! The guides are so patient and nice. Thanks to Mike and Sam for hanging with us all afternoon. We are already planning our next trip.

River Riders was the perfect choice for a school adventure trip!!! On 6/7/13, I helped chaperone a group of middle-schoolers to the Adventure Park and to go river-rafting. The RR guides were professional yet fun-loving, and the experience was what we expected. We had one glitch with the release forms which I'll explain at the end. The kids and some chaperones did the Adventure Park in the morning and had a blast!!! For those who don't know, the Park is like an obstacle course suspended in the trees. You climb a ladder to get to a station up in the trees, then zip-line, rope-course, and/or gingerly walk across suspended wooden apparatuses to get from one tree station to another. (If you don't like heights, you can walk the very hilly trails beneath like I did and still get a workout.) Everyone wore a harness and hard hat for safety, and the guides gave a safety demo, including on a small zip-line, beforehand. Each adventure course is assigned a level of difficulty. It takes about 20/30 mins. to an hour to get through one course. Logjams occurred periodically as expected when someone had a bit of difficulty getting across a part of the course, but this gave the kids small rest breaks. All of the guides (Katie, Tyler, many others) were great!!! Guides were at each course carefully observing and giving advice to the kids. One of the guides was available to help a kid down if he/she had been unable to navigate a course, but this never happened. After the Park, River Riders provided a great lunch (choice of pizza, burgers, or hotdogs, plus potato salad, chips, lemonade, and water). Next, we changed clothes for river-rafting. (Hiking was available for those who didn't want to go rafting.) They have changing rooms and stalls and only a few bathrooms, but the lines were short. Someone said there were also porta-potties somewhere, but I didn't see them. River Riders showed a rafting safety video, gave us life jackets, helmets, and paddles, and bussed us to the drop-off point 5-10 mins. away. There were 5-6 people in each rubber raft including one guide. The guides explained how to paddle. Austin was our guide and he was super!!! We did several Class 1, 2, and 3 rapids along the Shenandoah River and part of the Potomac River (6 miles total)--took about 3 hours but the time flew by. River levels were normal for spring; so, it wasn't insanely rocky. Austin told us historical facts about the area, including Harpers Ferry and C&O and B&O canals, and kept us entertained with a lot of jokes (hmm)!!! The area is beautiful (hey, it's WV!). We took a break midway on the river bank where the guides gave us lemonade and water, and the kids played/swam briefly in the river. At the end, there is a very steep hill to climb up after you get out of the water to get back to the bus. It is not that long though, and out-of-shape-me was able to make it up with a bit of panting. Happily, the guides hauled the rafts up (at lightning speed), passing even the fittest among us. The guides told us jokes on the 10-15-min. ride back to River Riders. All-in-all, I would absolutely recommend River Riders for this type of adventure!!! You can request a specific guide when you book a trip. I forgot to mention that they sell a bit of gear (water shoes, eyeglass straps, snacks, etc.), and you can rent a small locker for $3. All of the equipment we used was clean and in good condition. The only glitch we experienced was with the release forms when we arrived. River Riders is very strict about having signed, unaltered release forms for each participant. There are separate forms for the Park and for river-rafting. Page 1 of both forms looks similar and is not explicitly titled "Adventure Park" and "River-Rafting" which was a bit confusing. Despite our best efforts, a few of our kids' forms were missing or incomplete; so we lost an hour contacting a few parents to have them fax/email what was missing. So, if you go with a large group, try your best to get all the needed forms signed and arrive extra, extra early for check-in in case there are problems. Also, River Riders made us sign a second release just before we went river-rafting--not sure why. In spite of the form glitches, the office and counter staff were very patient and kind throughout the process. I had so much fun that I highly recommend River Riders and give them 5 stars!!!

Through Living Social we bought a coupon for a day of outdoor fun at River Riders near Harper's Ferry WV. We spent the first half of the day with a guide white-water rafting on the Shenandoah River. One of the rapids was a Class 4 and the rest were lower than that, so it was not a wild ride. We did have a lot of fun "surfing" one of the rapids. After a lunch of hot dogs and burgers, the guides outfitted us with bikes and drove us to a campground on the Shenandoah, where we rode on a bumpy path for about 20 minutes to the charming historic town of Harper's Ferry. After that we picked up the flat and beautiful C & O Canal path (smoother than the previous path) right next to the river. We found the River Riders staff to be friendly, helpful, and safety-oriented (Adam was a great raft guide). One of our fellow bike-riders had a problem with his gears, so testing the bike before leaving the rental area is advised. All in all it was a fun day of active outdoor activity in a beautiful mountain river setting.

For my first time zip-lining - I could not have chosen a more professional outfit!!!! Safety was the Number One concern of the guides. At NO TIME was I ever un-attached from the entire course. The guides - Emily, Vince, and Anthony were terrific to be with. They explained all the procedures and geared us all up for our adventure. They were clear and concise in explaining what we had to do for each step of the course. I was terrified and hyper-excited at the same time, and now I can't wait to do it again!
I'm sure other guides are just as professional, but if you can, request these 3 people.
Amazing experience!! Thank you !!!!!!!

The staff that handle the white water rafting are top notch. The water is this area is one of the most technically challenging in the country due to the rock formations. While the scenery is wonderful, the guides know how to traverse the water. They are friends and very professional. We took about a 5 mile trip down the water in about 2.5 hours. Well worth the time to visit River Riders. They also have tubing trips and zip lines and other recreational activities.
