We were interested in Pinehurst because of their membership in the Travel Green Wisconsin program. We were impressed by their use of solar panels, eco-friendly linens, bath soaps, etc., non-toxic cleaning products, and using locally grown food when possible. The grounds of the property are well maintained and the wild flower garden is beautiful. Our stay was incredibly relaxing and the host, Steve, was available when necessary. Steve is very knowledgeable about the Apostle Islands and it was interesting to hear his stories at breakfast.
We both received hour massages at Enso Day Spa, which is located in the lower level of the Garden House. If you have the time, schedule a massage!
While we would recommend Pinehurst if you visit the Bayfield area, we rated it "very good" instead of "excellent" for a few minor things - (1) Steve's wife, Nancy, wasn't around much and when she was, she didn't even say "good morning" to the guests at breakfast. It was our understanding she was out on a rescue most of the night in the Apostle Island; however, it doesn't take much energy to say "good morning" while you are walking by, especially since she talked to Steve briefly in front of the guests. (2) We really wanted to use the sauna one evening and was told it would take "several hours" to get it ready & warm it up. We really wished they would have mentioned that when we checked in or indicated that in the info binder.
