“Wonderful visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2011

We stayed here Sept 21-22 2011. It was a wonderful experience. The breakfast was wonderful (and as guests we were given great table too). We had the master suite at Le Chateau Boutin. Views are to die for, the front porch is equally wonderful and our favorite little nook type window seat has a radiator below it, cozy and warm when the weather was cool. Mark, one of owners spent a good 20 minutes just chatting with us about his family and the history of the properties. Landmark restraunt was a FIVE star for sure. I had the signiture pork dish and it was a melt in your mouth type. Husband had steak that was cooked to perfection. Breakfast is good, especially the fresh baked items. I searched the internet, and am happy that I made the choice to stay at Le Chateau Boutin.

Room Tip: Look at the photos on their web site.

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. The view from the fron porch is beautiful, service was great, breakfast was lovely (and large-have them pack up the baked goods and have them later). As others have mentioned, it is a bit pricey, but worth it for a splurge.

Room Tip: Get a room on the sencond floor-all have lake views (the first floor rooms do not).

While we certainly enjoyed our recent stay at the Rittenhouse, it is our daughter's wedding that we wish to comment on. The setting was beautiful beyond words, the food was not only lovely to look at but delicious, and the service was outstanding. The entire staff went out of their way to make the day as special as it could be. Our hats are off to everyone- from the maintenance workers who prepared the grounds, the housekeepers who cleaned and "juggled" our rooms, the waitrons who served so efficiently, the amazing chefs, and Wendy who pulled it all together. The day after the wedding it felt as tho we had been in a fairy tale- difficult to return to "real" life!
One more daughter..... one more Rittenhouse wedding!

The only reason we stayed at this place was because we received a gift card from some very good friends and while the room was fine, we will not return. There was absolutely nothing that met our expectation. The room was average...nothing special. We chose to have dinner out and I'm very glad we did considering our experience the following morning at breakfast.
The waiter was an arrogant individual who apparently found something not to like about us. He spent all of this time chatting with the neighboring table about their baby and barely deigned to speak to us. We asked for the continental breakfast which included a hot fruit crisp or a fruit parfait. He took my husbands order and ignored me. He brought us both what my husband ordered which I did not want. He went around the room a number of times before my husband pointed out that my coffee cup was empty. With a snotty attitude, he stated, "This is decaf", referring to the pot in his hand and left. When he returned with the regular coffee, he went around the room in the opposite direction so we would be last.
The granola we had for breakfast did not seem homemade but looked and tasted like a nature valley granola bar broken up and dumped in a bowl. When I had had enough of his attitude, we asked for the muffins to be bagged up so we could take them along and he actually tossed us a ziploc bag without a word!
Fortunately they stopped adding the gratuity automatically because I wasn't going to pay this man a penny. He ruined the entire experience for us with his attitude. I do not recommend this place.

I think the review's first line says it all: "The only reason we stayed at this place was because we received a gift card from some very good friends and while the room was fine, we will not return."

Regardless of the circumstances, we treat all customers equally, with our very best service given to all. We are sorry that the breakfast server did not live up to our high standards of customer service. The server mentioned in this review is no longer employed by Old Rittenhouse Inn, Inc.

We stayed at the Rittenhouse Inn because we had heard such wonderful things through the years. The staff was very polite (although we never saw the innkeeper) and the appointments beautiful and well taken care of. The food was excellent, breakfast and dinner. However, the room left something to be desired, the bathroom was the size of a small closet and the shower was one of those that got ice cold then scalding hot 3 or 4 times while you were in there. You would expect more from a place with this kind of reputation. When I commented about it, they acted as if this was the first they heard of it, which I don't believe. They did not offer to change our room or make an accommodation in any way even though the Inn was not full by any means. But even worse than that was the smell of gas in the hallway outside our room. It was a good thing we had our windows open all night.

We have stayed in B&Bs all over the country and this did not live up to it's reputation. We are disappointed and a little angry.

Thank you for your review. We apologize for the fluctuations in water temperature in the shower during your stay. It is quite possible the front desk staff you talked to were unaware of an existing issue. The front half of the building, where you stayed, used to share a water heater with the kitchen. We have since updated our water heaters. Having stayed in many B&Bs in the past, you understand that no two rooms (or inns) are alike. Old Victorian mansions, while beautiful and charming, have some quirks! We are constantly discovering new things about this building we've cared for over 38 years now, and maintenance is always ongoing. We appreciate your stay, and thanks again for your review.

This place is breathtaking from the moment you step out of the car and walk up to the building. The grounds are gorgeous, the porch is perfect, the inside is flawlessly decorated and furnished. The staff and service were A+. We enjoyed every moment of our visit to Bayfield and at the Rittenhouse.

My husband and I had a terrific 3rd anniversary at the RIttenhouse. I wish we woulda spent the night as well. We are not at all "fancy" people, and this is certainly a fancy place. The atmosphere is quiet, classical music plays, the staff is soft spoken and very lovely decor, but wow, it was amazing. I officially like "fancy." We had the 5 course meal, which is an amazing deal. It's only an additional $25 added onto your entree. Each course was delectable from the chilled cucumber soup I tried, the sorbet as a pallet cleanse, my ratatouille to the delectable ending of vanilla penna cotta. We had a beautiful view of Lake Superior, yummy cocktails and future plans to come back. Thank you Rittenhouse for a great anniversary!
