“Great Stay - Nice Motel”
Reviewed October 15, 2011

We were recently in Bayfield for the Lighthouse Boat Cruise. We happened upon Harbor's Edge Motel and were pleased with our stay. The rooms were simple but very clean all that you need in a motel room. The location was great...the Cruise Boat is about 1/2 block away and all the places to eat or shop were right there! I would recommend the place to friends.

Room Tip: Second level motel rooms have a great view!

We visited Bayfield to attend the Bela Fleck concert at the Big Top Chatauqua. Harbor's Edge had the only room available. We were pleasantly surprised with the location downtown with views of the big lake. It was perfect for walking around this quaint town, visiting shops and restaurants and checking out the neighborhoods. The rooms are clean and simple, and some are pet-friendly. The hotel seems to be well-managed except for the customer service from the lady at the front desk. I would also encourage the owners to improve the comfort of the beds. I like firm mattresses, not hard mattresses. The beds would be greatly improved with inexpensive foam mattress toppers from Walmart, making this a place I would return to.

This motel has been there a long time but is well maintained. Perfect location, across from Ferry landing, one block from downtown, but away from the bustle. This was our second time there and plan to do it again.

Room was OK - but Bathroom was terrible - the Floor was rotted by the toilet so you actually felt like it fall throught the floor - then Shower ran cold. We complained - only for them to come in with a screw driver to tighten the shower handle and never fix the water temperature. The front desk promise a credit on our account and it never happend - no call or credit. I will not spend my money here again.

Great location to walk to shops, harbor, restaurants, etc. We never got in our car while we were there. Our room was large, and nice enough for what we were expecting. The shower was cold, and the coffee pot didn't work, but we weren't in our room all that much. Don't think I'd stay there if I came out in another season. The front desk was useless -- on the phone I wasn't impressed before arriving, and that feeling was confirmed when we arrived. When we got there my 4 year old really had to go to the bathroom. The lady at check in had to give it thought as to whether she wanted to be bothered to let my daughter use the bathroom that was 2 feet away, and reluctantly let us use it. Then we asked her about options for seeing the apostle islands and she said she wasn't familiar with ways to see the islands. Isn't that why everyone is there? Not impressed I went and picked out a bunch of brochures right off their own rack -- there are a ton of boats that have regularly scheduled trips that she could have directed us to. My husband and I both walked out of the office shaking our heads. The housekeeping staff was nice and accommodating. We didn't leave overly impressed, but it wasn't a disaster either. There are a lot of places right in town to stay that I'd look into before coming back.

I was shocked by how rude the staff and management were! VERY poor "guest service" - it was as though we were burdening them by wanting to stay at their motel. Reservationist took down our reservation incorrectly - and it was just one thing after another. I would HIGHLY recommend paying a couple bucks more - VERY poor business practices Harbor's Edge!!!

Hotel staff was very friendly. Location is EXCELLENT - right across from Madeline Island Ferry and walking distance to restaurants and shops. Room was simple, but clean. The bed was not very comfortable, but for just one night it was okay. Recommend staying on 2nd floor, as the 1st floor was a bit noisy. Would recommend this hotel, if looking for a clean - economical choice.
