We recently stayed in one of the condos in the Reiten Boatyard property. It's a great location--close to town and right on the public swimming beach. The condo itself was adequate. It was functional and clean but pretty outdated. It has great potential, with a little updating, to be a really nice place. The thing that made us decide never to stay in this particular condo again, though, was the bed. It's a studio, so it has a murphy bed. Both my husband and I had terrible neck and back pain after two nights in that bed and needed to make an emergency trip to the chiropractor. It would have been more comfortable to bring an air mattress and sleep on that. Also, there are supposed to be quiet hours, but being in a condo complex, we could hear other guests out on their decks talking and laughing late into the night. Since the unit doesn't have AC, it was either put up with the neighbors or close the windows. There are so many places to stay in Bayfield, we'll probably try somewhere else next time.

This was the third time we have stayed at the Winfield Inn. The first year we had a ground floor motel room, but the last two times we have had the end-unit 2 bedroom condo. It has the most wonderful view of the lake and seems almost private since it doesn't share a wall and is at the end of the long porch. The staff is friendly (though a little disorganized when we checked in, at first they couldn't find our reservation. Luckily I had printed out the confirmation and had it with me). The condo has everything anyone could need and was very clean. The beds are very comfortable, though the pillows are a little soft for my comfort. The first night we were there we had noisy neighbors with kids who ran back and forth the length of the porch and seemed particularly fascinated with peering in the sliding glass door at us. I finally asked the parents to keep the kids away from our door and they rather grudgingly did. The rest of the time we were there it was very quiet with only adults and a group of young kayakers who were having a great time on their end of the porch but were considerate and quieted down by ten p.m. This is the place to go if you want a clean, quiet room or condo with many repeat customers who enjoy the special tranquility of Bayfield and the Winfield Inn. We will be back!

Room Tip: Condos are roomy and wonderful for a long stay.

It's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and continue to come back. We appreciate your business. I do want to apologize for the kids running and peering in your patio door. I'm glad it was resolved. We hope to see you in the future. Justin

The hotel has a great location; walking distance from downtown. The view of the lake from the patio is stunning. The gardens on the property are amazing. The rooms are clean.

We lucked out and were able to get a room without reservations. We won't take that chance on our next trip to Bayfield. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had great view of Lake Superior from the patio. The property is landscaped with beautiful flower gardens and numerous trees and bushes. There are quite a few lawn chairs and umbrella tables for the guests use. We enjoyed relaxing on the lawn and watching the boats go by. We got a great nights sleep on the king size bed. We would definately recommend this property.

Room Tip: The staff at this motel also manages numerous properties in the Bayfield area including condos and r...

Good location close to town. Suprisingly quiet and restful. Price was moderate for the clean serviceable accomodations. Friendly staff. Nothing negative stands out. This was a dependable and safe place to stay for a few nights. The "lake view" was obscured by brush and trees, would have been nice to enjoy the vista of the lake.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor right above the courtyard garden where a wedding was performed on a...

I mean the term laidback in a good way though. We were 2 adults and 2 kids, stayed in a standard motel room on the 2nd floor of the main building. The private balcony is great; and the view of the lake with the garden in the foreground in my opinion is better than the view from the condos -- which are closer to the lake.

Has a homely laid back and quiet atmosphere, the opposite of staying in a modern 3-star-or-higher hotel. Yet the amenities are all there. A suggestion would be to add a microwave in every room -- even a small one will do.

The wifi connection in the room was useless. I had to disconnect and use my phone's 3G network instead for browsing even simple web pages.

Would I return? Sure, it's affordable, clean and private with a rural atmosphere -- pretty much like the whole town of Bayfield. The view is great especially with that garden in front.

Or maybe I would try a bed-and-breakfast next time -- those houses have a charm and desirable look to them. The whole town is on a slope so regardless of where you are, you get a view of the lake one way or another.

This is the first time we have tried staying in a motel room (ever) and it's been a pleasant memorable experience -- with the added privacy that you probably won't get at a bed-and-breakfast establishment.

First time to Bayfield? This is a place you should consider staying at. Nice location, great garden and lake view, good value for money.
