Last evening my family was totally blown away by our music and dining experience at Rittenhouse. We've been there for 5 of these holiday concert/dinners...but last night something was different. As usual, the food was superb and the singing exceptional....but last night everyone was friendly and smiling and seemed genuinely happy to have us there. It made ALL the difference. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!

We were looking forward to dining at the Rittenhouse, a place that has a reputation for fine dining in a beautiful setting. The building and the dining rooms are indeed beautiful, unique, worth a visit. And our waiter gave us perfect service. He was a delight from start to finish. Unfortunately, our food was disappointing. It was not outstanding or even memorable. The “signature” pork chop was huge, but rather dry and not made better by a salty sauce. The Steak Bercy’s description in the menu was mouth-watering and full of promise. The actual filet was dry and not tender. It was not seared well enough on the outside and not juicy on the inside. It came with a very small amount of sauce- not enough to offset the dry meat. We chose the two-course meal ($39), which amounted to a minimalist salad with very little dressing and the main dish. Not a good value. Because we had to wait a few minutes for our table, I was able to read the printed menu posted near the door. This turned out to be a good thing because no printed menus are offered once you are seated. For some mysterious reason, they are proud of their tradition of having an unlucky hostess recite in excruciating detail everything on the menu. After several minutes of this, the whole performance became annoying, the choices a confusing mess in my mind. Luckily, I made up my mind about what to order before I sat down.

We regret that this reviewer caught us on an off night, and are sorry they did not enjoy their meals. We just want to point out that we do have printed menus available at all times, and these days we only present specials verbally at the table. Warm regards, the Phillips family

Dinner at the Rittenhouse is so much more than the food on the plate. It is an event to relish for an entire evening. There is the intimate atmosphere of the beautifully restored Inn's dining area. The verbal presentation of the menu is a novel experience. Our waiter could have described high school cafeteria fare with such ardor that the diner would have begged for more options. Some of the items were comparable to other retaurants, but our "must have" recommendations would be the Lake Superior Whitefish Chowder, anything with their risotto and the Chocolate Flourless Torte.

Very nice and well priced, we were more than happy with our meal, especially the Creme Brulee. The staff were excellent.
