Review of Burnside's Bridge

If you toured the Battlefield, you might as well go to this nice little bridge. There are a few monuments and you get a good idea what it must have been like for the Union troops trying to take the bridge. Sort of like shooting fish in a barrel, they were easy targets until the Union flanked the Rebels. The bridge is well preserved. My guess is the water was higher or more turbulent back then, as you could easily wade across these days.

This is a welcome shaded stop on the driving tour. We were glad to see the restorative work being done, but the only portable potty was padlocked !!!!

My favorite spot on the battlefield. Just a beautiful view and area, so horrible to think of the tragedy that took place their but I found it very peaceful. Just a beautiful spot.

We like the bridge. It's well kept. To learn about the history of the bridge made us in an awe. So many lives lost on that day in order to not let another party cross it. We couldn't cross the bridge because it's currently closed.

We stopped here during our self-guided auto tour of Antietam Battlefield. It's one of the last stops on the park map.

Parking is up above the bridge, so you do have to walk down a (nice) trail to get to the bridge. Part of the bridge had fencing around it; apparently they are doing some repairs. This made the photos we took not quite as nice; no one wants to see bright orange fencing in scenic pictures;-).

We crossed the bridge, and I walked a bit on a trail on the other side. Walking back up to the parking lot wasn't as easy as walking down!
