“Nice architecture and staff”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were nice quality. However, it was difficult to sleep due to noise in the heating/cooling system. The hotel also only had down pillows which was a porblem for my husband. The restaraunt wasn't open for a bite to eat when we got in around 8PM. The immediate strip though quaint didn't have any immediate dining options either. Building is beautiful and staff was hospitable.

Thank you for your feedback about your recent experience at the General Morgan Inn. I am very happy to hear that our staff was friendly and accommodating and that you enjoyed the architecture of our building.

However, I was quite concerned to read about your experience with our pillows. Because we understand that some guests have an allergic reaction to feather pillows, The General Morgan Inn discontinued using feather pillows on our beds quite some time ago; however, there are a few feather pillows kept in the guest closet. It is possible that a previous guest used the feather pillows and our housekeeper failed to recognize the difference when she cleaned and reset the room for arrival. In response to your review, we have asked our Housekeepers to ensure all feather pillows have been pulled and tagged with a label so that we do not mix up our pillows again.

We apologize for any discomfort and frustration that this caused you during your stay. If you notified our front desk with a request for non-feather pillows, you should have been accommodated immediately. I would welcome your reaching out to me so I can personally apologize and work to regain your trust in our hotel.

Thank you again for your feedback, we want to be the best loved hotel in East Tennessee, but we'll never get there until we learn from the times we're not at our best.

Sincerely,

Julia Beach

We have just finished driving over 1500 miles through TN and KY, and this was our most favorite hotel. The hotel maintains the grand old flavor, the beds are fantastic, and the restaurant outstanding. The staff in all departments was the utmost of professionalism. If I had to plan a conference, this is where in would go.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay at the General Morgan Inn, and we are so happy you enjoyed your guest room and dining experience.

Wow ~ 1500 miles through Kentucky and Tennessee? In October, that must have been a beautiful drive.

We hope you thoroughly enjoyed every mile (and every corner) of these two states!

We spend a weekend here once a year for about 4 years. Each time is relaxing and enjoyable. Some things to consider: Why are you there? We go to get away from people and visit the class act Antique Mall across the street. Then, we will eat at Brumley's which has always been great. We make sure that there is NOT a wedding party there which can absolutely ruin your weekend. We always ask!
It's just a hop to Jonesborough, Johnson City, The Smokies, hiking, etc.
The rooms ARE old! Why else would you stay there? Very well restored and very nice. Some better than others so ask for another one if you are not satisfied. We always do and they are very nice about it.
We've had no bad experiences and will be going again this Fall. Use the on-line reservations and save.

Room Tip: Corner rooms seem roomier.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to post your thoughts about the General Morgan Inn!

We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your weekend with us, and we appreciate the excellent advice you passed along to other TripAdvisor users. We agree that Vickie and everyone at the Greeneville Antique Mall are a class act ~ that's a great way to describe them! We'll be sure to pass along your comments to them.

You brought up a terrific point that every person should consider when booking a hotel room: when booking a guest room, ask the reservation agent if there are special events hosted at the hotel the night(s) you will be there. Whether it's live music, lively conversation, or groups of friends walking through hallways, there's never a shortage of entertainment during a celebration. Large events can be overwhelming in any small property, and we always do our best to assign quiet rooms to our guests who aren't attending those celebrations; however, it's always best to know what is happening at your hotel before you arrive. That's a great piece of advice for everyone.

One of the best reasons to visit historic hotels is for variety and service. Indeed, if you are ever unhappy with the size or arrangement of your guest room, we encourage guests to let us know. Like many historic properties, our rooms vary in size and features, and we want every guest to thoroughly enjoy their stay with us. Some guests like small and cozy, other guests like a little extra floor space: your comfort is our priority.

Again, thank you for choosing the General Morgan Inn for your weekend getaway. We hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Julia Beach

We have stayed at the General numerous times. Each visit including the most recent was relaxing. The staff is always helpful. Brumley's is a nice quiet place to eat. We always get rooms with king beds. Plenty of pillows and linens. Some rooms have refrig. some don't.

We love this hotel. The room was spacious and well appointed. The hotel restaurant, Brumley's, is quite good! Greeneville is the home of our 17th president, Andrew Johnson and there are a lot of Johnson sites. This great, old hotel is quite a value.

My husband and I booked last minute after arriving in Greeneville to help my parents out who had lost everything in a tornado that hit the Camp Creek area on 27-Apr. We were both impressed with the service and the hospitality of the staff. The hotel is a historic building and the entire downtown area is quaint with old churches, shops, etc. It's very charming. I can't say enough about the quality of the beds.........they are amazing! It was like sleeping on a cloud (super comfortable). If you happen to be in this area, be sure to spend a night or two here.
