The visitor center just west/north of Del Rio has a lot of good info that, will help you plan your time, even if you just have a little (as we did). Be sure to take the drive down the old highway to the Pecos River, we did it on a whim and it was very pretty, easy to access and, if we'd had more time, a nice trail high up above the river. We also did a short nature hike at Diablo East. If you're interested in the native plants you see, this is a very easy, short hike with good interpretive signs, and you can get to the water if you want, though not a swimming access.

The water is clear and the lake bottom is rock, it's very clean and cool, a true summertime escape. Governor's Landing is our favorite area for swimming and floating.

Peaceful. But need to put your boat in at Rough Canyon. Water level is down so there are a lot of islands to avoid when putting in at Diablo East
