No other restaurant on Saipan has so exceeded my expectations as the Shack. No other restaurant I have been to on Saipan has demonstrated both in décor and cuisine such profound creativity. Usually when I speak of a restaurant on Saipan as being good, I mean that it is really good for Saipan - but if it were in a place for example like the San Francisco Bay Area it would be only passable. The Shack would be good if it was in San Francisco, New York or Paris. But frankly it is just a plain, simple "order at the counter" café with one of the most creative "order at the counter" menus along with most obliging and personable "order at the counter" service.

As soon as you walk inside you are heat with a warm and homey feeling in what one might describe as a place with a 60esque yet motherly atmosphere. I could easily imagine I had stepped back n time and place to the 70's to the old pre-earthquake Pacific Garden Mall in Santa Cruz, California.

The specialty of the house is crepes and they have all kinds; sweet and savory. For lunch I enjoyed a turkey, cheese and spinach crepe topped with just a little dollop of cranberry sauce - all for a mere $5.75. My beverage was an awesome pumpkin café latte - I topped it all off with the moistest carrot cake imaginable - made fresh daily by the proprietor's mother.

The Shack is located on the beach side of Beach Road just past the intersection where Joeten Motors is located. In fact it is right next door to the Oleai Beach Bar and Grill. They are open every day except Monday's from 7AM to 9PM.

The Shack is one of the newest restaurants on Saipan, and I've been eagerly awaiting it's opening for quite some time. The food is all home cooked, and recipes from Glen's mom, Gloria, who is the chief cook by the way. Their chili is always awesome, the fresh squeezed lemonade is just what your taste buds are asking for and the carrotcake is out of this world. The daily lunch specials are something you would be used to getting at home. The atmosphere is very cozy and friendly, it's the kind of place you could easily make your second home!

Today was my second visit to The Shack. The first time I went was at high noon and it was super crowded. I had the yummy chili because I could get it quickly. Today I got there early enough to order a crepe (they're made to order so that's why it's a bit of a wait if you want it during the busy time). I had The Eden, a crepe with fig, feta cheese, basil, and a slice of lime on top. Sounds weird, huh? Well, it was delicious and I'd order it again in a jiffy. Glen was kind enough to make me a special coffee (a Breve), he'd never made one before but said he'd try - it was fantastically perfect!

I cannot say enough nice things about everyone working there; they make you feel like you're old friends - very welcoming, helpful, and gracious. Of course the restaurant its self is attractive, with an island type motif and lots of interesting art work.

I will definitely be returning with friends, or by myself! It's really nice to have a new restaurant with good food and even better prices on Saipan.

Don't let the name fool you - this place is cozy and comfortable with a nice vibe and unique decorations indoors and a large covered deck in front. It's located on the ocean side of Beach Road in Oleai, just north of Marianas High School.
The Shack has the best crepes on island and the only place to get loose-leaf teas. Everything from savory to sweet crepes, chili, daily lunch specials and tempting desserts. Their prices are easy on the wallet.
The owner greets you personally and every single employee is kind and friendly.
They accommodate custom crepe orders and may even name it after you!
Pancakes just added to their breakfast menu (swoon).
Daily lunch special handmade by "mom" can even be preordered by phone and packed to-go (670)235-7422.
And bonus: Strong internet and strong AC!
You can also buy handmade donne pepper hot sauce, mango jam, local honey and pesto!
And try their cheesecake or carrot cake
