“The best cioppino in San Francisco !!!!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Keep returning to this ALWAYS friendly restaurant for the tastiest cioppino, and to accompany this....a great risotto! Want sand dabs? Their sand dabs are always filetted, quite mouth watering and never have problems worrying about the fine bones. If it's a cold day and not too hungry....try their clam chowder, and it is always of the same quality.

“Ambience and service by far below expectations”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

We went to this place based on the outstanding reviews here on TripAdvisor. A booking was not accepted for less than 3 persons, so as a couple we had to wait at the entrance for around 30 minutes to be "seated".

After that we had to discover that our "table" was not a table but sitting on the "bar" which is a long counter with their kitchen on the one side and guests sitting and eating on the other side. We got the great spot where they cleaned the dishes - which was very noisy and definitely not appealing/ a place where you want to sit for a nice dinner.

The service was unfriendly with no personal attention for any mentioned concerns regarding waiting times and seating. (Most likely they just don't need to know about service as the surreal reviews here provide them with many more guest than they deserve).

Food was ok - by far not up to the expectations and comparable to a fine-dining seafood location.

Overall we need to admit that this was the first big failure in trusting TripAdvisor reviews. The place is anything but not recommendable for a nice evening out in SF.

“Atmosphere warning....”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

I made reservations here after reading all the great reviews, but when we walked in the door, it just wasn't where I wanted to eat. The hostess was very friendly, but the restaurant is basically one long counter with a few small tables. It is super noisy and I really didn't want to eat dinner at a counter. The food might be wonderful, but if you're looking for a place with some ambience.....this isn't it.

“Ciopinno is so scrumptious!”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

A very fun, hole in the wall, locals' spot on Green St. in the North Beach Area. Don't miss it if you want ciopinno filled with many kinds of delicious seafood in a wonderful tangy sauce not to be forgotten. Limited menu, but fun place to be rubbing elbows with the local folks who know the reasonably priced great spots in San Francisco. The smoked salmon appetizer was simple and delicious. Put that with the ciopinno and you have a delicious dinner. Warning... don't come here for dessert. They don't serve it since the owners have had much trouble with diabetes. However, they do recommend several good local spots for desserts. We tried Stella on Columbus. Had almond cookies to die for! Made for a great dinner in North Beach.
