“Great Cioppino”

Not very impressive inside or outside, but really good Cioppino. We had lunch and it was worth the walk.

“Yup, it's great.”

Found this place on TA. It was excellent. I had oysters to start, then my wife and I shared the Cioppino. It was great, loaded with seafood, great flavour . I would go again in a heart beat, wish I went twice. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs cook. Great time!

“Really nice food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Going on Trip Advisors rating, we tried this out and we were not disappointed - really excellent fish food restaurant. We all ate different meals and none of our party of 6 were unhappy with the food. The were very amenable hosts and soon found us a table even though we had not booked. I would recomend booking. Highly recomended food

“Best Cioppino in San Francisco!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

Sotto Mare is a tiny, crowded seafood spot in North Beach. Because of its size there is often a wait--but it's worth it. The Cioppino, the special San Fran concoction of fish, shellfish and crab in tomato-based sauce, is sized for two and fresh as you can get. They make it in their tiny open kitchen and serve it to you with sourdough bread. We come here every time we come to San Francisco. Not to be missed!

“Excellent food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013 via mobile

We had the famous cioppino(for 2), a fish dish, a linguine pomodoro and some drinks. The cioppino was as tasty as what some of our tripadvisor's reviewer had mentioned. It consist of variety of seafood(squid, crab, scallop, prawn, mussels) and penne pasta cooked in something like a tomato sauce, just tastier. The fish is also as fresh as it can be and the accompanied kale was nice too. The linguine came about as quite ordinary but it would not be needed if cioppino was ordered. Bread was served to soak up all the sauce of the cioppino. Do take not that the restaurant does not take reservation for 2 person, only 3 and above. Be prepared to smell a little after your meal indoor as all the cooking happened behind the counter. Wished that ventilation was better. Bibs and paper towel provided just in case things got messy! The cost of this meal came up to $75 excluding tips which was not too costly as we were stuffed. Get some seats over the counter if you want to watch all the action. Go early as the place filled up fast.
