Located in a very cool old brick building, this place is unpretentious and friendly, yet has a sophisticated style with very simple and basic food. Hamburgers, ribs, pork roast, French fries --- all are a step above the usual. Great cocktails as well, especially a not-too-sweet margarita.

Food was extremely good and bit on the expensive side. Service was great and the server was knowledgable.

Three Stars for the totally random location

Four Stars for it being super cute, super cozy... very nice. Not overdone, not overwhelming. It is a brickhouse, made hip... and does a good job.

The menu is GREAT! ***BUT****

way too expensive, and the staff, unlike some of the other bad ones in the city, is COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY OUT TO LUNCH.

A slow Saturday morning, it took them 10 minutes to make 2 coffees. That isn't a big deal, and my friend and I like waiting... but they had five staff members. The chef looked exasperated, slamming his spatula on the line saying "get the food get the food get the food" so it isn't a rare problem. It was like he was tired talking to his kids about writing on the walls with crayons. They couldn't multi task.

I will go back, because as a F&B employee for years... it was COMPLETELY hilarious.

The Brickhouse Cafe is one of those quirky places where you have the offerings listed on a chalkboard, you make your selection, and go to the cashier to order it. They also have a bar with good beer on tap and other assorted beverages to complement your meal. You pay, pick up your drink, find yourself a seat (there is also a neat little loft area), and they bring your food to you when it is ready. There were 4 of us in my party and everyone was quite satisfied with what they had to eat. It's not fine dining, and doesn't pretend to be, but for a nice, satisfying lunch when out and about in SF (near AT&T Park) it's hard to beat.
