The food was delicious. The staff very attentive and friendly. We were lucky enough to sit by the window and watch the people on the street.
We were able to walk to the restaurant from our motel without having to go up one of the many steep inclines!
We had a very nice evening in a very nice restaurant.

“nice Italian neighborhood place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

we were so glad we chose this place one night while we were in San Francisco. It wasn't too far from our hotel and only took a short taxi ride. We had a nice welcome on our arrival an no wait at all due to booking in advance. The food, we all chose different meals, was good and very enjoyable. The staff took good care of us all evening, and we certainly were glad we sampled this little local treasure.

“Favoloso!”

This quaint Italian restaurant was absolutely wonderful Our waiter was a joy and recommended a wonderful bottle wine to pair with our dinner. The food was unbelievable and even though we were stuffed we managed to find room for dessert. So glad we did! The ambience in the restaurant was romantic yet fun. We will definitely return!

“Nice neighborhood place, and we don't even live in the neighborhood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Too often we in the Bay Area are used to "new" takes on food, but there's a certain comfort in knowing that we don't have to venture into North Beach to tackle parking, crowds, etc. for a nice Italian meal. Capannina is one of those places where you feel welcome, and are prepared for a satisfying meal without all the drama of nouveau foods. Their daily $25/person menu is terrific, as was their white asparagus soup and the fresh mozzerella and proscuitto. Part of their fixed menu was salmon perfectly cooked, and the braised short rib tortellini-little pillows of soft, beefy goodness. Desserts aren't pretentious-taste and enjoy, savor the meal. Noise is a little high, but in a good, friendly way. Would definitely return!

“Nice restaurant in the busy Union St. retail area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

My wife and I dined here recently. The service was very good as was the atmosphere. It apparently continues to enjoy a "neighborhood restaurant" reputation. We noticed a $25.00 three item price fixed ($25/person) which included an appetizer, entree and dessert. The people adjacent to us had it and it really did look like a bargain!

We both had pasta dishes and shared dessert. The ravioli and the linguine were both nicely presented but mediocre. I can't say that I'll be back given the enormous number of alternative choices for Italian food in S.F.
