“Great music and atmosphere”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

We visited on a "jam night" with a super 2 piece house band. The music was excellent and the atmosphere laid back and welcoming. We only drank wine .... the service was spot on and we've vowed to come back as the food looked good too.

“Great food and jazz”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

The staff was very friendly and accomodating. If you enjoy jazz, the place to be. The jazz club was a great venue for concerts, caught the last of the 8pm set for Peter White.

“Try The Grilled Hanger Steak”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

This is a nice looking restaurant is a great revitalized location where service is stressed from the top down. We went here the last two nights for dinner and was so impressed with our server, Ernesto, the first night that we asked for him last night as well.
I would suggest a seat near the window so that you can watch folks walk by in this really diverse neighborhood. Alternatively, you can sit near the stage near the dining area because the acts that perform during dinner are normally pretty good.

As far as the food is concerned, I think they are a bit overpriced but there is something that they do with the garlic edamame that makes it the best I have ever had. The hotate, hamachi, kappa maki and shiromaguro were fresh, tasty and presented well. I will certainly recommend the grilled hanger steak. They give a decent sized portion, present it well and the sauce is terrific.

“Wanted more from this restaurant”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We rented the upstairs out for a large group dinner. The passed apps were fair to middling (tuna tartar on a chip, tempura shrimp with an avocado puree on it and tempura vegetables). The meal was done sit down, served family style with a couple of plates per table of eight to ten. There was plenty of food - but that may be the number of courses that we opted for. There was a salad, a dish I can't recall, a plate of various sushi and sashimi, three cooked meats (salmon which was eh, chicken which I didn't even taste because it looked less appetizing than the salmon, and beef which was incredible), and finally a plate of desserts. The dinner service was fast through the first two courses but slowed before the sushi and slowed significantly before the entrees. Our group was all up and visiting again. When dessert was served we were pretty much unceremoniously kicked out of the premises because it had been rented out, on a Friday night, to a promoter. I was not responsible for the contract with the restaurant so I cannot speak to whose mistake it was, though our event planner told me that we were never told we had to leave at a certain time. That soured me completely. It got even worse as we were trying to gather to leave (and actually bought tickets to stay) but were harassed by the security staff. I will not likely return as the food simply didn't make a good enough impression to overcome the experience.
