Charming motel in Marina District. Flowers and flowering plants everywhere (plus flowers painted on selected walls). SIngle garage parking (free). Many restaurants, delis, shops, etc. on nearby Chestnut Street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in center block; it's quieter.

What can I say about this little place? It's simply adorable! Love the Spanish feel of the property and FREE parking! You know that's a rare thing in SF, so this plus the affordable price makes the motel truly charming. We stayed in a 2 double bed room which was perfect. Everything was clean and felt very comfy. Loved how the motel is also pet friendly too. The neighborhood was probably one of the nicest I've ever stayed in while in SF. Lots of great restaurants and shops all around too. Very close to the Pacific Palace of Fine Arts and Golden Gate Bridge. Awesome location and we will be staying here again!

Room Tip: Whatever you do, get a courtyard room...if you want to sleep. The street rooms face Lombard and it...

Stayed only one night regrettably.

Location. Okay, Lombard Street (101) is very busy. We were on the street side and had windows open. Slept soundly. Easy access from north. It's really at an edge of the city, not centrally located, but bus service is nearby.

Parking. We knew we wouldn't fit into garage, and we alerted staff ahead of time. The nice individual who checked us in had a spot for our van with box on top. It's tight in the courtyard, requiring us to pull our mirror into the car.

Staff. Gracious, helpful.

Unit. What a delight. Well equipped kitchen, good bathroom with just shower, good sleeping room. The decor is perfect for the vintage without appearing to try too hard. Bed okay. Very clean.

Ambience. How good does it get!! Lovely flowers, beautiful paint job. Like an oasis in the city.

Stayed here two nights and had a pleasurable experience. The property seems well maintianed and quaint. We stayed in room 19 which was towards the back of the property and away from busy Lombard St. The room was fairly small but did the job, clean with decent sized restroom and storage closet. I would call it cozy and comfortable, with flat screen tv and a small refrigerator too. Everything we needed, basically for a short stay. You get garage parking included which is a huge bonus in SF, but if you are driving a massive Tahoe or similar vehicle you are going to have issues. We never experienced any issues pulling out or into the property as some reviews have mentioned. Lombard is a busy street but just be patient and it will all work out.

Please note this is a "Historic" motel, so keep that in mind as far as luxury is concerned. No duel pane windows here.

The front desk was polite but not overly helpful. Marina area location was good. Walk to see the Palace of fine arts. Walk to the marina/beach for views of the Golden Gate etc. Lots of restaurants and shops close as well. Would definately stay again.

Room Tip: A room not facing Lombard would be your best bet to keep things quieter.

What is a quaint and charming looking motor motel turns out to be the "Hotel From Hell".
Forget that the hotels address is Lombard Street; it is on the US 101 Northbound access to the Golden State Bridge with non-stop heavy trucks and buses along with jump starting cars at the corner traffic light.

Do not think about having a "full" size car here. Inside garages are snug; requiring any passengers to exit before parking. Street garages require a spotter in the highway in order to align any vehicle trying to park or exit the street garages.

In spite of a noise disclaimer concerning street side rooms, the noise is beyond outrageous. The doors are paper thin and have NO weather stripping to mitigate the street noise. Also, vestibules magnify the street noise to the rooms.

On a positive side, the marina district location provides access to shops and restaurants within blocks of the site.

We stayed here for 1 night as we wanted to catch a SF Giants game and the motel we had booked for the remainder of our stay in San Francisco was fully booked.
We arrived at 1.30pm after a 3hour drive and were told we were very early so wouldn't be able to check into our room. It would be available from 2pm. To be honest, it didn't matter that our room wasn't available as we were a bit (marginally) early, but the member of staff was so rude. I asked if we could park our car and walk for lunch and to be fair, she agreed, but after all the exceptional service and hospitality we'd experienced during our road trip, and having stayed at 8 hotels or motels in the USA on it, this at the final leg of the holiday, was highly disappointing.
Which is a shame, as the Marina Motel is actually quite nice. Each of the indidual units have a garage beneath them, so you can park and go up to your room. They're very well appointed too with a full kitchen, including a dining table. The only downside is the steps up to your room - if you have lots of/ heavy luggage, it can be a pain getting it into the apartment.
It's at the far end of Lombard Street, so walking into main SF (Pier 39, Union Sq etc) would be quite a trek, but there are great little cafés and restaurants on Chestnut, which is right behind.
Nice place, but not the service with a smile you come to expect when travelling the USA

We found the Marina Motel quite by accident. I was looking for a hotel in SF that would take our dogs at a reasonable fee. At the Marina Motel I not only got that ($25/nite for two dogs) but also a full kitchen, a large bathroom, a comfortable, queen bed, and free parking. (Parking in San Francisco usually ranges from $15 to $75 a day). The parking is in an individual garage that is lockable -- with your own lock.

On the downside, since it is a Boutique (read old but upgraded) motel, there is a shortage of electrical outlets -- but what is there are all grounded, three-prong outlets.

The units do not have air conditioning (seldom needed in San Francisco) but it did have good cross ventilation. Also, be aware that all units are on the second floor (over the garage) and are walk-up.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three day stay in late April, 2014.

Room Tip: Since the windows have to be opened for ventilation, I would recommend asking for a room NOT facing...
