This motel is a unique experience. When you step into the courtyard off busy Lombard Street you take a step back in time. Each unit has its own covered garage, and they take great care to maintain the courtyard. We stayed on a family trip with our dog so were placed on the street facing unit. I don.t recommend these rooms to light sleepers as you are only a sidewalk away from noisy city buses. Also the hide-a-bed is not very comfortable. The neighbourhood is a great area to walk around in, and there are services close by. Rooms were clean and well equiped, and the staff very friendly.

Room Tip: get a room facing the courtyard, and don't expect to be able to park an overhieght vehicle in th...

A peaceful garden in the middle of the city! I stayed in Room 17 (kitchenette) and was very pleased - close to all San Francisco sights. The room was very clean, spacious, and airy - and you get a garage for your car. The kitchenette was bright and functional – right down to the three electrical outlets! No getting on my knees and unplugging other appliances, plenty of outlets for my phone, i-pad, and laptop; comfortable queen bed with beautiful pillows and comforter; large bathroom with super shower pressure and darling leaf-shaped soap; lots of hangers – and the iron was so cute, I took a picture of it. There were four sunshiny windows where you could see plants, flowers, and trees – what a garden. Special thanks to front desk personnel Raul and Natalie who were both extremely helpful, efficient, and kind. I will definitely be back – it’s my new haven when I am in San Francisco.

Room Tip: Kitchenettes are very spacious.

LOCATION – Very easy to find, right on Lombard Street, one of the main roads through the city. Palace of Fine Arts and Crissy Field within easy walking distance. Nice restaurants and grocery stores a few blocks away. You feel more like a local in the restaurants in this area than the touristy. City tour bus stop close by. Area feels safe to walk, even at night.

ROOM – Colourful, character décor and immaculately clean. The room we stayed in had the bedroom at back over the courtyard, living room/kitchen at front. Traffic passes out front, so the bedroom is in the quieter location. I am a light sleeper and the traffic noise did not bother me.

Cable TV in bedroom, sofa, table and fully equipped kitchen including microwave and full size fridge and oven.
Nice bathroom with excellent selection of toiletries and hairdryer.

HOTEL & FACILITIES – Excellent service and very friendly front desk. Attractive outside area with a flower filled courtyard. Convenient parking in either the courtyard or a secure garage on the main road.

TIP – If you are a light sleeper, you may want to pay the extra for a courtyard room, or take some ear plugs. As I say it didn’t bother me and I think some of the other reviewer’s comments are very unfair.
Take a walk up to the Palace of Fine Arts in the evening as it looks very nice when it lit up.

VALUE FOR MONEY – Very good value for San Francisco, I was surprised at how good it was for the money.

We ended up staying here spur of the moment having been turned away from La Luna Inn by a rude receptionist. So glad we stayed here as it was a wonderful experience.

The gent at reception was very accommodating, explaining that if we would like a room by the road it would be cheaper but a little noisy (it is - light sleepers avoid but if you're not fussy then you save about $20). The room is a fair size with a sweet little kitchen - no breakfast is supplied so make use of this! The bathroom has only a shower but the best water pressure I've had in my entire 3 month USA trip. The room was very clean and well stocked with a tea and coffee service (then even had hot chocolate and Lipton teas).

The hotel is a great price for the touristy Fishermans Wharf district, you're really in the hustle and bustle of San Francisco.

Thank you so much to all the staff for their help and suggestions, they really made our trip to San Francisco great.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper ask for a room not on the road, but when travelling on a budget you...

We travelled as a family of 5 and we stayed here two nights before heading down Highway 1 and ending up in San Diego. We visited lots of great places but we always ended up comparing everything to staying in SF and Marina Motel. It has this very special charm and as we like to move around by foot, bike or public transportation to see as much as possible - this was a great starting point. We felt safe and we walked around with the kids and they loved it. Of course it can feel a little tight even in a big room when you are 5 and lots of luggage, but there are so many good things about this place that the space you forget about.
A huge advantage was that we had rentet a car and we were able to park right in front of our room. The nice people in the reseption are always helpful and give lots of good advices when it comes to information on how to get around, where to eat etc. We will go back - and Marina will be our base - that's for sure!

Chestnut and Union street are so close for breakfast ,shopping and lunch. dinner too of course.. our room was very clean. I thought the noise would bother me but we slept with the windows open and it was fine. ah yes I see another comment. yes the room did smell musty.. but we opened the windows and then it didnt bother us. For the price.. it fit our bill perfectly..

PROS: Very good price; tiny room but I wasn't staying there for the size; safe neighborhood; would be great if you had a car or a dog. Comfortable bed. In-room coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. I felt safe here. Hot water available immediately in the sink and shower.
CONS: the room smelled very musty (Room 19) - seemed like a long-term issue and probably not a great choice if you have allergies or asthma. The room I stayed in was listed as a no-pets room, but it smelled kind of like a dirty dog. It looked clean, however. It's at the end of the Airport Express shuttle line ($17 one way), so plan for at least an hour coming from the airport.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the courtyard - very quiet.
