Good location in the Marina District. I stayed in one of the central court pet free rooms. Rooms are small but no street noise and covered parking and very convenient for the Presidio, Chestnut St, golden gate etc. Friendly efficient staff. I got a manager's special rate on website which was very good.

Thank you for very nice and informative review of our hotel, WE ARE A SMALL AND FRIENDLY HOTEL, BUT OUR CHARM IS BIG. We love the uniqueness of our hotel and we do our best to prevent street noise from affecting our guest. This year we have replace more than half of our dual paned windows which has added to that affect. I am glad you were able to take advantage of our Manager’s specials these can be found on our website and are updated regularly.

We look forward to your future stay with us and hope it will be soon.

Located on Lombard Street, near the Exploratorium and the Marina, this quaint and slightly old fashion motel features a garden courtyard and rooms individually decorated. Family owned for generations, this place seems immune to the busy street just yards away, provided you get an interior room. The room prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly and helpful. They also give you a two for one coupon at Judy's, a great place to have breakfast, just two blocks away.

I searched EVERYWHERE for a place to stay that had both a kitchen (I have food allergies, so I need to cook) and allowed pets, while fitting into our budget. I'm so glad I found this place! It's right off Lombard Street, close to some neat landmarks like the Golden Gate bridge, Marina, and Palace of Fine Arts. Yet if you get an inner courtyard room, it feels like it's really secluded and quiet. I was here for a week, working in the room on my computer, so I wanted a place where I'd feel safe and not be disturbed much. This was perfect for that...I loved looking out the windows at the gorgeous bougainvillea plants in the courtyard, and there's even a little dog run to take my dog to for quick bathroom stops. The rooms are older, but have nice new furnishings. Basically if you're wanting a slick modern hotel with restaurants and pools, this is not your place, but if you want to experience the city and stay in a cute little studio, this is great. I'm coming for another week in the summer, and will probably stay here again.

PROS:
-- Great price for everything you get
-- Full kitchen
-- Allows pets
-- Quiet and safe
-- You get your own garage to park in
-- Comfy beds/pillows

CONS:
-- Rooms are a little small...not recommended for big families that need a lot of space to spread out, but perfect for two
-- Radiators to heat the room...I'd suggest bringing a small space heater if you get cold easily
-- If you plan to cook a lot, you might need to bring a few necessities that I couldn't find, like a cookie sheet and paper towels. Otherwise, they have pots, pans, bowls, and basic dining stuff.

Room Tip: Get an interior courtyard room with a kitchen if you can...much quieter than those on Lombard. Bring...

I'd read the reviews on TA about the Marina Motel but i am always a little skeptical. We only stayed for one night, 6/1, but wished it could have been more. The motel was lovely, had a rather Mediterranean feel with all the flowers in the courtyard. The rooms weren't huge but nicely decorated and all the facilities you would need. The staff were helpful and friendly and location was great. Lombard Street is one of the main streets through SF but just round the corner is Chestnut street with lovely independent shops and restaurants and you get a real feel that the people are mostly local from the area. Earlier on in our trip we had stayed in Union Square which was also good but in hindsight i think i prefer this area. Parking in the garages is also a bonus!

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms would be quieter off the main street

Thank you for your review of our hotel, we love being referred to as a “Nice Surprise“, who doesn’t want to find more than they expected. We believe TripAdvisors and Yelp comments help us to keep that element of surprise, as we take all comments and use them to better the hotel and our guest experience. Unfortunately, we can not do much about the size of our rooms as this hotel was built 73 years ago, but we strive to make the rooms clean, comfortable, and constantly updated. If you have stayed at our hotel this past year, you know we have upgraded our bedding and linens, repaired and remodeled many rooms, replaced clouded double paned windows, repainted balconies, replace furniture and much more. We have just received our 3 star rating from AAA and our ranking has improved much with the review sites. This all due to those guest who take the time to write reviews, each and every one is acknowledged and reviewed by all employees to better your future experience with us.

We hope you will visit us again and soon.

stayed 2 nights in Dec/Jan. Rooms are very small but beautifully decorated. Our room was facing a courtyard so we did not have an issue with noise coming from Lombard street. We used a breakfast coupon and had a meal at judy's that we liked a lot. I try not to stay in pets friendly places but this motel has few not pet friendly rooms. The only problem (apart from the fact that it was an expensive place) was heating system. Every morning around 5 30 we were woken up by a noise coming from the heater. Very annoying.

Room Tip: make sure your room does not face Lombard street as it is very busy street

Thank you for your review of our hotel, our hotel is in a great location if you love the Marina/Cow Hollow area, but like most hotels plagued by city life, we are affected by Lombard Street (currently part of the 101), which can at times get noisy. But you were wise to choose a courtyard room, the layout does mask much of the traffic noise. I think we are the only hotel that works with Judy’s they will love to hear that you enjoyed your meal with them, must try their pumpkin loaf in the morning (still warm). But in the winter I also recommend their chili.

Sorry to hear you were affected by the radiators, being an older hotel, most of San Francisco apartments and hotels use this type of heating system. The noise happens when guest accidentally turn the wrong knob, black instead of white when they are adjusting the heat. The water gets trapped inside the pipes and will cause a banging or hissing noise when the cold water and hot water meet. As a suggestion if you book a kitchen room next time, these rooms have the gas wall heaters since we have installed gas stoves, you can control your own heat and do not have the problems that the radiators sometimes do.

We hope you will visit us again and soon.

Wow! Absolutely excellent! Very clean. We had a queen with a kitchenette. Our room was toward the back and very quiet. We woke up Christmas morning to find a Xmas stocking hanging on our door. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A quaint setting and close to the Presidio for a morning walk with our dogs. Shopping and outdoor restaurants everywhere we walked! City transportation was readily available in this area. Our best recommendation is that we will rebook with Marina Motel on our next visit to SF!

Room Tip: Ask for a room toward the back of the property away from the street traffic.

Thank you for your review of our hotel, I am so happy you stayed with us over the holidays, we loved putting the stockings together for our guests, (especially sneaking them on the doors after midnight). Childish I know but, we loved it, we hoped our guest would experience a little bit of their past childhood with the Christmas stockings. The employees and family are so happy that someone has let us know they actually enjoyed them. Even the owner’s children got involved with stuffing them and decorating the packages. Just our way of giving back to our guest like Valentines Day and Easter.

Thank you again for letting us know you enjoyed our fun and the hotel. We hope you will visit us again and soon.

Hi. I've stayed here twice now with our dogs, yes plural. They've been great with us and them. I really appreciate a place that understands the special needs you have when you bring furry friends along. The rooms aren't large, but they are nicely decorated, clean and the beds were comfortable. I highly recommend the interior courtyard rooms with the kitchenette. Parking is included as well, and they were quite nice about us having two cars on one of our trips as my husband and I were coming from different directions. Nice staff! Enjoy!

Thank you for your review of our hotel, one of the points that make our hotel so attractive is that we have a good pet policy and truly enjoy having dogs stay with us, complete with a small dog run at the back of our property, (even doggy treats tasty enough for humans). We do recommend choosing a room with a kitchen when you have a dog, so that you can leave your dog in the kitchen when away from the room, quieter for the dog and much less chance of destruction to room, (also do not have to bring a separate crate).

Wish I could say you are wrong about rooms not being large, compared to chain hotels our rooms are more cozy, but they are nicely decorated with real furniture instead of hotel type. So if size is a matter, I also recommend the kitchen rooms which are much larger than the regular queen room. Thank you again for letting us know you enjoyed our hotel and that your pet also enjoyed staying with us. We hope you will visit us again and soon.
