Im in San Franscisco about once a month for business and enjoy a close walk to work plus easy access to the city. And of course a great night sleep. This property is near Union Square, cable cars to the Wharf, and great restaurants(love Colibri, try it, no disappointments especially if you are a Tequila aficionado). The rooms are stylish, warm and welcoming, service is great and staff very professional. The rooms keep me coming back to any Kimption property because the beds are so amazingly comfortable you cant help but sleep well. I always have a great experience here as well as most Kimpton hotels. Thanks for another great week!

I stayed in this hotel for a week and while the location was perfect the street noise was quite high. On Two morning I woke at 6am to the noise of the local bin men. The rooms are a little small, but very clean.

On saying that, the overall impression of the hotel and the Restaurant / Bar were excellent.
The staff were also very helpful.

Normally I would stay in the St Regis or Palace hotel, both were fully booked on this occasion, but this is a good 3rd choice. Next time I will ask for a higher room to try and avoid the street noise.

It is also worth noting that there is free internet access in the hotel and it actually works.

We were impressed by this hotel as soon as we walked in - the high ceilings and fancy decor make it very striking. The receptionist staff are very helpful, although we were very disappointed that, despite booking (and paying in full) months in advance, we were evidently not 'guaranteed' a room on arrival and potentially faced being transferred somewhere else. Luckily, we got one of the last rooms, but found it ludicrous that our stay there centred around our flight being on time.

The room was excellent, despite our initial concerns on arrival. The room was very well appointed and big. The free wine offered to guests between 5-6pm every day was great too!

Other minor disappointments were thin windows meaning a lot of road noise (even through the night as the hotel is a stone's throw from Union Square) and no tea/coffee making facilities in any of the rooms (justified from management by their daily morning provision of free coffee in the lobby).

Despite this, a very good quality hotel - just be wary of its dubious 'first come first served' room allocation policy!!!

San Francisco is just an expensive city and there it is. In most other cities, given the size of the room and, what I consider penny-pinching features (e.g. charging for a bottle of water and internet access), I'd probably give a lower rating.

But... the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The room is comfortable and quiet (very quiet, given the location).

For a couple of nights staying in Downtown and seeing everything that has to offer - I'd definitely recommend staying here and getting breakfast in Sear's around the corner. Do some shopping. See some roof gardens. Go to the SF MOMA.... and then stay somewhere different and see a different side to the city.

I just enjoyed a three-night stay at SF's Hotel Monaco. The attractive hotel is well located just off Union Square and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, as well as a cable car line, yet it still is quiet at night. The building, funishings and employees are wonderfully exceptional in every way! Both public areas and rooms are furnished in a pleasing style that shows no signs of wear; employees are friendly, polite and helpful; the entire facility is pristine and clean and the beds very comfortable. The room's bath was spotlessly clean. Too, there was the additional bonus of a help-yourself coffee, tea and cocoa bar, as well as the 5 pm gratis wine & hors d'oeuvres. Super stay!

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco for one night on our way back from Napa Valley and on our way home to Toronto. We arrived before noon, expecting we couldn't check in, but not only was a room available, we were upgraded at no cost at the front desk. Room 601 was perfect for us, quiet, with a king size bed and small sitting room. Bathroom facilities were roomy and functional. We had to return a rental car (which they let us park in front of the hotel while we checked in) and the staff was very helpful in finding us a gas station to fill up and a route to the car rental return!

The hotel's location is a couple of blocks off Union Square (lots of shopping) and the Powell Street trolley cars which take you to Fisherman's Wharf and back. We spend the day walking around San Francisco before returning to the hotel around 6 p.m. and asking for a recommendation for dinner. Instead of recommending the hotel's restaurant first, the concierge recommended Fino's, a cozy Italian restaurant a block and a half from the hotel. The food was authentic and the wine list reasonable - we'd return there in a heartbeat!

We had to catch a cab to the airport before 6 a.m. the next morning, so it was nice to have a quiet room to sleep in. The checkout was efficient and a cab was waiting for us when we walked out the door. All in all, a short stay, but a memorable one. We would definitely recommend this hotel for friends staying in San Francisco.

Just returned from a week at this Kimpton property and can't find a fault with the place. Rooms are stylish and fun and spotless, service is top-notch, location is excellent right near Union Square, staff are happy to work there and it shows from the doormen to the front desk to housekeeping. Upon returning to the hotel we were always met with "welcome back" which is such a nice way to return. We had a room facing front of hotel and was surprised how quiet it was considering it's a busy street. Add to all that it's a pet friendly hotel and I'd say you would be hard pressed to find a better hotel for the price.
