Executive Hotel Vintage Court
Ranked #100 of 230 Hotels in San Francisco
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Location is the best thing this hotel has to offer. It is convenient to great shopping and the theatre district but the hotel itself is kind of drab and in need of updating. Instead of "vintage charming" this place was just "vintage OLD". The front desk was literally a desk in the lobby and the room - old carpet, old furniture, rust in the bathroom - looked like it hadn't been updated in at least 20 years. The accommodations were well below other hotels I've stayed at that had the same star rating so I was disappointed. It was a case of overpromising and underdeliving. Had the star rating been lower, I would not have had the same reaction to the room. Fortunately, I was only booked for one night. If you just need a bed and no frills whatsoever, this is the place for you provided the price meets your definition of "low budget".

Dear Recent Guest:

Thank you for your recent stay and review. Although our location at the Executive Hotel Vintage Court met your need but appears to have fallen short in your review of decor and accommodations. Your hotel may not be the right “fit” for you particularly, but in San Francisco our hotel remains highly rated and well suited with many amenities to meet the needs of most travelers. Overall, the Executive Hotel Vintage Court is placed well against many of the other 3 diamond and 3 star hotels in our local area of Union Square, Nob Hill and Chinatown. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly too.

Sincerely,

Bill Engelhardt – General Manager

We stayed in this hotel for four nights in late July. Visited SF to watch the Cubs sweep the Giants and enjoy a long weekend in a wonderful city. We had a room on the third floor. It was very clean and quiet, even with small children staying in the rooms across the hall. The room was on the small side, but that is to be expected in a boutique hotel in the city. The staff were very nice - everyone we talked to was super friendly. The location could not be beat, with easy access to bus routes (we mainly used the 30 to get to Fishermen's Wharf/Ghiardelli Square/ North Beach) and the cable car. It is a short walk to Chinatown, and only a slightly longer one to downtown. The BART stop is about 6 blocks downhill. Keep this in mind if you plan to take the BART from the airport (highly recommended, it is easy to understand, clean, and seemed very safe), be prepared to walk straight uphill with your baggage, or splurge for short cab ride. We will definitely stay here again next we want a great getaway weekend.

Room Tip: We were in room 307 - view of nearby building. Maybe other rooms have better?

Stayed here in May during a trip to San Francisco. Our first time in this hotel. We had a very enjoyable experience. The hotel is very near the Union Square, within walking distance to China Town and all the places my wife enjoys shopping at. I liked the afternoon wine tastings, a nice touch, where you can meet and speak with other guest. We met a very nice couple from Santa Cruz who said they always stayed in the hotel when attending concerts. Only negative was that the restaurant in hotel was closed for renovation. All in all we very much enjoyed our stay and plan on staying in the Executive Hotel on future visits to San Francisco. I would recommend the hotel to my friends and family.

I stayed there for 2 days with my son during our stopover in SF. Decent size room but the carpet, furnitue and the bathroom were all showing their age. This plays needs a major renovation. Employees were friendly but it was not worth the $$.

Room Tip: Stay a bit away and take a cab or BART to this area! You will save a bundle if you stay in San Jose...

Dear Recent Guest,

Thank you for the review, and although the hotel is a bit older, you found our hotel clean and staff friendly. With peak events in San Francisco, hotel room rates are much higher due to tourism demand. It is not unusual now that hotel prices for a good three (3) diamond rated hotel to be well over $250 per night plus tax. Please note for future stays any last minute “stop over” booking is also very costly. Lower cost room rates are typically booked at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance. If you ever plan to return to San Francisco, check out our “Hot Rate” on our website for best hotel room rates and availability.

One last note about BART and taxi cabs. If one is staying outside of San Francisco downtown, Taxis are $50 or more per way from the SFO Airport area and BART (rail system) is limited with no service South of the San Francisco Airport. However, if you stay at an airport or San Jose hotel, a rental car could be your best choice for transportation to and from the city. Note then driving and parking in San Francisco can be challenging and expensive.

Hope you can continue to enjoy their summer travels and thanks again for the review.

Best regards,

Bill Engelhardt – General Manager

Well as other reviews state the hotel is in a wonderful location and perfect for the cable car literally a minutes walk away,China Town five minutes and ten to Union Square, could be very problematic if you are elderly or infirm and have no car or don't use the cable car as this hotel is situated off the main road which is VERY STEEP. The is a liquor store across the road which at night seemed to bring some unsavoury characters with it but aside from that we felt relatively safe. SOME of the staff were helpful others were just earning their wage and seemed more interested in looking at the Internet. The small lift seemed to be forever in use and so we took to walking up and down the stairs which as an asthmatic was not ideal..
Our room smelt of smoke which was odd as it was supposed to be non smoking but the hotel would not change it as they said they were full. it faced the front of the hotel and so we got the brunt of noise of people passing by throughout the night. The a/c was old and rattled the headboard was dirty the paint was peeling and the cupboard where the fridge was stored was not clean. The bathroom window could not close properly and the bathroom was very small with a shower that seemed to have a life of its own. Once we had checked out of the hotel I was refused use of their phone to dial a toll free number as I was no longer a guest and it was not their policy to allow non guests to use their phone...amazing how they changed after just five minutes. we placed our bags in the left luggage in the hotel but after arriving at the airport it appeared that certain items from our bags were missing, the hotel of course knew nothing about it.Needless to say we won't be going back there again.

Room Tip: I'd suggest a higher room to avoid the noise

We were very glad that we had booked the Executive Hotel Vintage Court for our stay in San Francisco during Gay Pride Week. I guess that most people are a bit sceptical about middle-class hotels in strange cities (and especially if you get a dead-cheap rate like we did), but we were very pleasantly surprised.

We were received with great friendliness and big smiles when we arrived, and this was the attitude we were met with throughout our stay. We enjoyed the friendly attitude of the charming maid who made sure our room was spotlessly clean every day, and we also appreciated the chance to sample a free glass of wine every afternoon in the lobby. There are bath robes in your room, a faultless internet-connection and a nice bathroom, a huge, nice bed and a Michelin-star restaurant next door.

Our room faced away from Bush Street which meant that we were not disturbed by traffic noise. I don't know what it is like if your room faces Bush Street, but the building and its walls and windows have a solid feel to them that makes me think you'd be OK no matter where in the building you end up.

The hotel's location is perfect: within walking distance of Union Square and all its shopping possibilities, and with a cable car stop a few yards away.

The hotel does not serve breakfast, but that is of no importance: there are countless cafes in the neighborhood, a couple of Starbucks, and also food markets.

I have noticed that the rates charged by this hotel vary a lot. As mentioned we got our room very cheap and as such we were extremely satisfied. This is by no means a "business"-hotel like your typical Marriott or Hilton with a huge lobby and should not be judged as such, but for romantic couples like us who came to enjoy San Francisco and for families who are not millionaires this place is where you want to stay.

We hope to be back some day.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for the kind review on our hotel. I am delighted you found our hotel pleasant and accommodation clean. Our hotel offers a great value and all the services one would need as you have noted above. I have to note however, our hotel started a breakfast service in our dining room from 6:30am to 10am daily with a light continental style service. It’s a great way to start your day! As lastly as noted rates vary based on city events and occupancy levels so if one is seeking to stay please check out our “HOT” rate on our website the best deal.

I hope our hotel can host you or any associate you may have anytime too.

Best regards,
