Had a last minute overnight stay in the city so booked a queen bed room at the last minute on their website for $109, so very well priced for a good hotel. Other reviews are pretty spot on - it is an older place that has been renovated and yes the bathroom is a little small but clean, redone and very functional. Bed was good as were the sheets. It is clean and the staff was great. Mine was an even numbered room on the inside (courtyard) on the top floor (not odd numbered as noted in prior review). It was quiet and I had no problem with street noise. Only minor drawback is that heat and cooling is via a window unit so not great but it was off to the side so it did not blow on you while in bed, like many motels. The other window opened for cooling and you very rarely need AC in the City and not much heat. I would stay again but might balk a little if I had to pay $220 or more for a night.

Room Tip: inside rooms quieter than street facing rooms, although view is not as good

The Triton is a quirky boutique hotel just at the Chinatown gate and an easy stroll to Union Square. The lobby is artsy with a fireplace, several seating areas, a large screen TV, and interesting view of foot traffic heading in and out of Chinatown. It boasts a complimentary wine happy hour which was a welcome bonus, though I don't think unique for hotels around here. The staff was courteous and helpful.

The rooms (at least mine) was small, and I believe that every room has a different decor. Mine had a kitschy bed and wallpaper that was (I think) a Kerouac novel. There was a small bathroom with a shower and a mini bar.

I had stayed at the Triton years ago and didn't hesitate to return rather than pay the outrageous price required at my conference hotel a few blocks away. The walk was not onerous and there are many excellent eateries in the area. Complimentary coffee in the morning was a plus. Internet was free if you signed up for the loyalty program. It wasn't all that quiet being at the edge of Chinatown but hey, it's San Francisco.

I came across this hotel while doing a search on the area I wanted to stay in S.F Usually pixes on the web does not match reality but in that case all was perfect. The room is cute kind of vintage decorated, very comfy bed/pillows. Although the bathroom is a little small I did not have a problem with it. Location is perfect 5 min from Market str where you can do your shopping and grab something to eat. Sign in to the in touch program and get $10 to spend on mini-bar, also newspaper and internet complimentary. Staff was very friendly and made me fell at home. I will definitely come back to Triton on my next trip to San Francisco and if Ill go to a city where they have a Kimpton hotel I will certainly go for it!

Overtly friendly staff. Join the Kimpton group of hotels and receive complimentary wine, newspaper, coffee all day and an afternoon wine reception in the lobby. The entire staff also seem to have the title of "concierge", they all new about the best restaurants, locations and times of events during our stay. But, I do recommend that when you check in to your room check all appliances (refrigerator, t.v., air conditioning, etc) before you unpack.

Room Tip: Even number rooms face the street, loud. Odd number rooms face inside and are quieter. King bed roms...

Positive: The rooms are quirky and fun in a way that gives the hotel character and charm. This made the stay more enjoyable. The staff is friendly and efficient.
Neutral: The bedrooms themselves are reasonable size.
Negative. The bathrooms are tiny. They are the tiniest of any Kimpton hotel I've seen. You can't put the bathmat down without moving it when you close the door. Speaking of which, closing the door takes minor acrobatics while inside. Some little details, like stains on the desk chair, take away from an otherwise fun experience.

Amazing staff who constantly went out of their way to add a special touch to our stay, very clean and hip room and lots of extras that made our stay perfect! We loved the location and all the extra goodies that were included like the warm cookies and wine hour. It was a pleasure for me and my husband to have such a great experience here since we don't "getaway" that often! Thanks Triton!

We stayed for 4 nights on a business trip in October.

The good:
Free set of pjamas!
Unique hotel setting, we've never been to anywhere quite like it.
The hotel is located right at the gates of Chinatown - amazing location.
The room had an iPod dock.

The not-so-good:
The room was tiny, with the bed pushed against the wall.
The decor of the room was dark blue which meant that it felt very dark dingy.
The window was blocked by a big aircon unit - which didn't work.
Due to the location right by Chinatown, there was a lot of tourism right outside the hotel which was fairly noisy at night, and the windows didn't have sufficient glazing.

Things we found helpful:
Take the tram to Fishermans Wharf - so much fun, and the sealions are amazing (and smelly).
Request a light coloured room!

We wouldn't stay at this hotel again, there are much better hotels around closer to town, better quality and for a cheaper rate.

We hope you find this helpful :)
