“Felt like we were so welcome ....”

A great experience from start to finish! We stayed here to avoid the crowds and cost of downtown and other areas. Having read the reviews on TA before booking we pretty much knew what to expect insofar as amenities were concerned, so no surprises there.

But what really makes this Travelodge stand out is their consistent friendliness, warmth, helpfulness, courtesy, and professionalism.

Upon check in we were greeted by Tyler, who was over the top with his helpfulness and warmth. He took a personal interest in making sure our visit to San Fran would be what we wanted; including recommendations for transit, food, and sightseeing.

And each member of the staff we encountered displayed the same attitude. What a welcome change from other higher price places we've stayed!

So if you're looking for a clean, tidy, economical place to stay with 5 Star customer service, this is the place !!

This was our third visit to the property. The rate is inexpensive for San Francisco. It's located on a short quiet segment of Lombard & walking distance to Chestnut and Union Streets and the Marina District. It's just a block from the Presidio which is great place to walk or run for exercise. The Concierge, Raymond, is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and full of suggestions about places to visit and transportation alternatives. We really enjoyed the Zorn exhibition he recommended at the Legion of Honor.

On the downside, the rooms are cramped. The property is somewhat faded and worn and could use updating. The bedspread gave us pause. The top didn't look too bad, but the under side was dirty and stained. I wanted to use the two wall lights to brighten up the room, but the compact florescent bulbs produced an uncomfortable glare. I asked the housekeeper for replacement bulbs like those in the table lamps, but was told "those need to come from maintenance and he's off today." I would have gladly changed the bulbs myself if they were available. We went out to breakfast and visited a museum Sunday morning and returned around 12:30pm to an unmade room. The housekeeper knocked around 1pm, ready to service the room. We declined and just asked for fresh towels. We only saw 4 or 5 cars in the parking lot early the next morning. With such low occupancy, it seems that the housekeeper had ample time to service what few rooms would be occupied that night first, and catch the rest later in the day.

The continental breakfast had croissants, packaged pastries, instant oatmeal, cold cereal, apples, mandarin oranges, coffee, tea, and milk. Several restaurants are nearby for those seeking an alternative. We liked Judy's Cafe on Chestnut Street. The free WiFi tested at 1Mbps, and was fast enough to stream a movie from NETFLIX without any problems or delays for buffering.

This property has had more than a few years under its belt, but the staff are friendly, the value is great and the location is right on the Presidio. I think it is a great value for the area.

Easy to drive to from Golden Gate Bridge. Across the street from the Presidio. Liverpool Lil's restaurant around the corner. Free parking, but only 11 parking places for 27 rooms, so need to arrive in the afternoon to get a parking space. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cookies available from 3 to 7. Breakfast minimal - packaged pastries, croissants, cereal, beverages. No microwave in breakfast area. If you don't use the safe in your room, you can ask for the charges to be taken off your bill. Minimal noise from street and other rooms. No bathtub.

Room Tip: 3 stories, but no elevator.
