Just an overnight stay to meet up with family. I had some special requests for family that were arriving before me - all requests accomplished beautifully. The rooms were totally comfortable, clean and luxurious. I was worried that the lobby noise would be heard in the room as it is open all the way to the top floor. When we shut the door, we could hear nothing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 was the difficulty in getting into the hotel. All the one way access took me another 10 minutes to find my way to valet parking. Get perfect directions! I would definitely return.

The JW Marriott is conveniently located just off Union Square. It formerly was the Pan Pacific Hotel and is built around a large central atrium that runs the entire hotel, so everyone has a nice outside window (not always the case with SF hotels), with views improving on the higher floors.

I am Marriott Gold and seem to rotate between the Marriott Union Square (two blocks away) and the JW Marriott when I stay in SF. The JW has larger rooms and much larger bathrooms, a general feeling of spaciousness and privacy, a 7 day concierge lounge with great views (alas, mediocre, overpriced wine--use the Lobby Bar), and onsite valet parking. The Marriott Union Square is newly and stylishly remodeled, with an extremely friendly front desk, but quarters are very tight (I think it was formerly a Holiday Inn) and cars are parked in a parking structure a few blocks away. Depending on the special rates offered (the JW often offers a rate with parking included), the cost is often substantially similar, since I drive to SF. When it is a "wash" or "near-wash", I opt for the JW.

During my last stay (January 2013), I initially was given an extremely smokey, nasty room (a first at this hotel, which, of course, is non-smoking). After complaining, I immediately was offered a different "upgraded" room and it was fine--but I was surprised that the room got through housekeeping.

Dont pay 50-60 to park. Go right across the street for valet parkking garage for half the cost! but be prepared to pay an extra $10 if you have an oversized vehicle. Hotel Barhroom door is a pocket door and does not lock. Water faucet in tiub was leaky but batroom and oversized tub was bery nice! hgood hot water and pressure. Mini bar does not lock either! Ever wonder about the if you touch it ( or if your kid does) you buy it. Yep my 2 year old picked up thes M&Ms. And I set the right back down. $7'. Do not get the jr suite website pics are misleading. You just get a pullout couch instead of a second bed as far as I can tell at least. It's certainly no more private than any regular double room.

Great property 2 blocks off Union Square. Tucked away on a corner, a block away from the larger (and much much busier St Francis) on the north side of Geary Street (prefer lower Nob Hill to upper Tenderloin). Impressive lobby and that doesn't end with the rooms. Well appointed, comfortable beds and well maintained. One of my favorites in SF.

Room Tip: Area is busy and you can hear the city sounds. As with any central hotel, the higher, the better.

We stayed here for a short trip to San Fran and a visit with family. The location allowed us to walk to the main shopping area down the street and for the price was a great value. The rooms were clean and nice.

The JW is a very nice hotel, given that it is a city hotel , the rooms were a very good size. The club lounge was very nice, and the snacks etc. provided were also very good. The location near Union Square was near shopping, resturants, the cable car and the financial district. Cinatown was also just a short walk away. The packsge we were able to purchase included parking worth (50 dollars a day) look for a package if you are driving a car.

Room Tip: All the rooms have some type of city view, some better than others

Stayed here for a conference and loved it. The staff was great. Always helpful. Always trying. I had a wonderful corner room on the 15th floor. Excellent views. Room was comfortable. The bathroom was huge. Shower stall was a bit small. Very convenient to shopping and restaurants. Moscone Center is a short 15 minute walk away. Internet (wired) was decent. Better than most. Would stay here again.
