Nice hotel in a good location. Rooms were a good size and really enjoyed the character of the old building (4-poster beds, twin sinks etc). Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

This hotel has an old-time feel about it which is quite authentic, because it is old. People give it a hard time for being old, but that is the very thing that makes this place worth staying at. It is a little out of the way of any specific location, but it is well placed to easily get to a lot of good spots in San Francisco.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 4th floor, right on the corner or geary and sutter, and had no problems with traffic...

Thank you for staying with us! We really are genuine. There are not a lot of hotels in San Francisco that give guests a 1906 feel.

I read these reviews and let me be perfectly honest, if you're used to new, luxury hotels where everything works all the time and you're catered to, don't come here. If you can appreciate old buildings and enjoy staying in a turn of the century building that still has a lot of it's original Victorian charm, this is the place for you. The staff are friendly, the bartender mixes good cocktails, and the dining room (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is beautiful. This building survived the 1906 earthquake and is a nice place to stay. We walked a short distance to the bus lines and got wherever we wanted to go in no time. MyMy is the best breakfast in town and it's a lovely 15 minute walk. I liked it here. If you get hot at night (no a/c) then open your windows and ask for a fan. They'll gladly provide you with one. I give it an 8 out of 10, but my wife and I love old buildings with charm.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite. Ours was on the corner so we had plenty of windows, a fireplace, and it was quiet.

The Hotel Majestic was our first hotel during our Honeymoon and we were happy with our choice. It is a small hotel with a huge charme - it begins in the elevator with its ornaments and ends in the room with the bed and the bath tub in the bath. We would choose this hotel again - also because it's only ca 10 minutes away from Union Square (by foot) and the neighbourhood is very calm... The Pier 39/Lombard Street/Market Street is easily reachable by public transport or foot from Union Square

We arrived late Sunday evening and were allocated room 402 by the receptionist. Pleased on entering finding a large room with a claw footed bath. The room is on the side and faces out over Gough Street so can be a but noisy early morning with the traffic from about 7.00 am and can still be busy until 11.00 pm, but if you walk around SF enough during the day you are too tired to bother about this and drop off due to exhaustion! Room was clean but my friend said that there was a musty smell to the room which I didn't notice. Beds are quite high (about waist height) so if you get up in the middle of the night be careful to remember the height. Room was cleaned on a daily basis to a high standard. People say the lift is slow, well you could always use the stairs the hotel is only 6 floors!

Did not use the hotel bar/restaurant so can't comment.

Hotel is a 5 minute walk to Polk Street or Van Ness. On Polk you can pick up the number 19 bus that will take you to Fisherman's Wharf ($2 flat fare). It is about a 15 minute walk to Union Square and it is not up any of the huge SF hills.

So much for the unhelpful staff, the lady on reception ordered me a town car to take me to the airport with no problems.

If you want shiny and modern do not go to Majestic, it is an old fashioned sort of place with atmosphere and old world charm. I thought it was great. There is free wifi in the hotel though so that is a bit modern.

I would recommend staying at the Majestic

Room Tip: 402 is a good twin room, but not if you are a light sleeper

Such a neat, old building! Well maintained with some updates but definitely keeps its classic style. If you want a fancy, smancy hotel...this is not the place for you. However, if you like old world charm but with a modern touch here and there (fridge and a flat screen in our room), GO HERE! Compared with the prices of some of the surrounding hotels, its an exceptional value. Our room was clean, great shower (water pressure was ahhhhh and lots of hot water) and the bed was comfy. Location was awesome and not far from all the sights and sounds. (We took public transit the entire time there and there's a bus stop right across the street.) The staff was great! Seriously, they were very nice and helpful. Tagged and kept our luggage when we arrived waaaay early from the airport and gave us some great tips on places to eat. On the last day, I went to the front desk to ask where I could buy a stamp (I wanted to mail my niece a postcard from San Fran) and the guy insisted on just giving me one. It was a small gesture but HOW NICE! Just indicative of the great service we received during our stay.

We booked this hotel because it was a little out of the way. However, it only took a 20 minute walk downhill to reach the harbour front. Our room was on the 6th floor (the top floor) and had the corner view which was fantastic. The lift was very old and was decorated as it probably was when it was installed. Although it was slow, the quaintness of it made up for it.
The room was huge and the bed matched this in height as it came up to our waists, so persons with mobility or height issues should avoid this room. Once we were used to it, it didn't bother us.
This was the first hotel we had been in that we did not sample any of the food (breakfast or dinner) as we were so busy seeing the sights we had no time to eat at the hotel.

Room Tip: If you want the view and can cope with a very high bed, ask for the corner room on the 6th floor.
