“The Inn at Union Square is a jewel of a hotel right in the heart of San Francisco!”
Reviewed July 2, 2009

The Inn at Union Square is a jewel of a hotel right in the heart of San Francisco! No sooner do you walk into the lobby then you are warmly greeted and pampered after your long journey. The staff and service are exceptional. They take a special interest in meeting your every need. We can't say enough of how much we enjoyed our stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We stayed in a lovely suite that had a parlor sitting room. It was a perfect room to entertain our daughters whom we came to visit. We especially appreciated the free wine and cheese offered every day on two floors of the hotel. It was fun to meet other guests in this lovely setting with comfortable high back chairs around a fireplace. One evening, we spent several hours talking with Wayne, the hotel manager, and another guest, DeAnna. It felt like an evening with old friends. Then, later in the evening, Joseph, one of the staff, made delicious chocolate chip cookies. How could we resist? If this weren't enough, each morning the hotel offers a lovely breakfast with delicacies of croissants, eggs, biscuits, muffins, juice, coffee and tea.

Aside from the wonderful amenities, the Inn is located just steps away from art galleries, great shopping, upscale restaurants, and of course, all the famous spots in San Francisco. We definitely will return to the Inn in the future and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, clean, quiet, bed and breakfast hotel right in the center of a most beautiful city.

Wife and I,daughter and her friend had the pleasure of staying here during March 09 for 3 nights. The hotel has an old world unique charm with superb staff who are on the ball for service and customer relations. The rooms were excelent with flat screen tv and the usual trappings for hotel rooms and a fantastic personel touch of wine and nibbles being served infront of a real fire on the landing area on two of the floors giving you the chance to meet fellow guests. Location is superb being next to Union Sq and a short walk to the tram stops etc.

We had a lovely 10th wedding anniversary stay at this hotel. We booked a deluxe King room, and were upgraded upon arrival to the King Suite for free. The staff is wonderful, and they truly seem to enjoy their jobs (which is reflected in their excellent service). Many Thanks to the staff for their cheerful attitude and helpful tips. They booked show tickets for us at a moment's notice, and mapped out for us great places to go that were in the same area as the show: appetizers, the show, dinner, and dessert. What a nice date night we had. Each place was excellent, and lived up to the claims of the staff. We would definitely stay here again. The only (minor) negative was the bathroom - the shower was much to be desired, but if I wanted a luxury bathroom, I would have gone to a spa. Stay here and Enjoy!!

Quite simply the best hotel I have ever stayed at.

The location could not be better, located one minute from Union Square. Easy to get around the city from there. Plenty of shops (Macy*s/SAKS etc), and despite this central position, the rooms are away from the street, so a nice quiet and relaxing sanctuary to return to after a hectic day of sightseeing!

The hotel itself is quite small, but the room size is absolutely fine for city centre location. Clean and modern bathrooms, and comfy beds. Nice quality TV (should you have time to watch any!) and very comfortable homely feeling.

What makes this hotel really stand out however is the customer care. From entering the front desk area, Ken ensured that were warmly welcomed, and checked us in in no time. He really could not have been nicer. During our stay we would have the pleasure to meet some of the other staff, including Omar and David on the front desk, who were equally great - offering recommendations of what to see during our stay, and also there to just have a nice chat at the end of the day.

As you have probably read in other reviews, the hotel offers complimentary wine and cheese in the early evenings. I highly recommend you attend this. Lovely way to meet other travelers, and to also have a glass (or two) of wine with hotel manager Wayne. Another fantastic member of staff, very entertaining and full of San Fran hot tips! Lovely way to start the evening.

If you find yourself back at the hotel around 8:30pm, make sure you take a look down at the communal seating area at the end of each floor. Tony bakes cookies each night and places them out in small jars. Be quick though - they are addictive and disappear quickly!

We loved our room, the location and most of all the truly fabulous staff. We can't wait to return to this incredible city, and we already know where we will be staying.

C + A.

We stayed for 5 days in April 2009 and loved it! We stayed on the 4th floor in the room all the way at the end and were very pleased with the size of the room and all the comforts that came with it. The breakfast at the end of the hall was a great way to start the day and the evening wine and cheese were a wonderful perk! Our only issue was the internet access was very limited. We could not get access in our room, and therefore had to check our messages from the common areas. The most important thing for us was location - and it was superb. The personal service was charming - we will return!

Just jump on the BART and go to Market Street and you are there in no time. Don't let the small reception put you off - Great location, clean tidy rooms, very helpful staff at reception, perfect buffet brekkie.

Spouse and I met with another family member for a stay in an executive suite. Both bed and sofa bed very comfortable. Extra half-bath off living area very handy. Very pleasant staff eager to please. Should you have trouble with the wireless internet, be sure to check with the hotel staff; a cable booster was available. Wireless service techies, though pleasant, may not tell you that! Excellent continental breakfast. We were never there for the wine/cheese hour. Front desk offered excellent service from getting cabs to offering info on current happenings in the city. Don't be put off by the tiny lobby; the rooms are ample. The lobby is part of this hostelry's charm. We didn't try the working fireplace or the off-site gym/pool.
