This quaint hotel is right in the middle of union square & right by the trolley line. It was very quiet at night. I was surprised, given the location, that we couldn't hear any "city" noises all night long. The room was on the smaller side, but since we basically only slept there, it didn't really matter to us. The breakfast was very adequate and had a lot of options. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. We called on our way into the city (drove up the PCH and stayed in Carmel) and told them we would be arriving around noon. The hostess said she would try to have our room ready and it was when we arrived! We loved San Francisco and this hotel was the perfect place to end and start each day.

This was a gem of a hotel. From the moment we stepped in door- I was smitten. Especially as we arrived about 3hours before check in and Mary on the front desk couldn't have been more helpful, and within about 30mins we had a room. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is relaxed, the staff are super helpful, but not annoyingly so, there is a continental breakfast on offer each morning, which can be enjoyed In the comfort of your room or at the tables on each floor, they offer drinks at 5.30pm (after a day of sightseeing it totally hits the spot) and then cookies at night! The rooms are spotless, spacious and gorgeously decorated. The hotel is situated just a short walk from Union Square, and therefore very close to transport links to other parts of the city. I didn't want to leave, and wouldn't hesitate to book here if I'm lucky enough to return to San Fran.

Room Tip: We had room 505 which didn't have much of a view (into a ventilation system and the back of some...

We returned to The Inn at Union Square because of the great experience we had here in June 2010. It was as we remembered.

Thoroughly enjoyed the warm reception every time we came or went. The staff is friendly, helpful, polite, just great. And the breakfast each morning is perfect, I loved going to get our trays of food to bring it back to the room. We had a junior suite which gave us plenty of room to hang out and eat our breakfast. And while this was not planned, it was a good thing, because we were never able to find an empty seat at the tiny breakfast/happy hour table on our floor. The space just doesn't accommodate as many guests as are on the floor, so it's quite tight and awkward to just stand there eating your bowl of cereal. I appreciate the coziness of it--but for the week we were there, it just wasn't working.

The room was lovely--it was a junior suite, so we had more space with a couch and coffee table. Really liked the extra room.

They welcomed my husband and me back to the Inn with a bottle of Champagne our first day. What a lovely surprise, made us feel very special.

We didn't take advantage of the Happy Hours as much as we could have--we were trying to show restraint, since it's so easy to over indulge on all the wonderful California wines in SFO! But the Happy Hour is a wonderful touch/benefit to staying there, and lets you kick off your evening with free wine and hors d'ouvres every night!

Lovely hotel--not state of the art or modern, but quaint and charming.

Took a chance on what seemed like the last room available near the starting line of Nike Women's Marathon (I would have stayed anywhere just to be close to the 6:30am start). Not knowing anything about the hotel I was pleased from the moment I got there. Friendly, helpful staff, great location, clean nicely decorated rooms. This hotel has all of the charm and hospitality that I wouldn't bet on finding among the other giant chain hotels in Union Square. I could easily make a tradition out of staying here any time I'm in SF!

We love the Inn..Have been staying there since the 1980's when every room was decorated differently in Laura Ashley prints.
Now it is still wonderful and it makes you never want to leave the hotel. Fabulous breakfast at the end of 2 of the floors. Elegantly set and if you are lucky enough to be on the 5 th floor you can wear your lovely robe to breakfast, (included in room) use a tray and return to your room.

Wine cheese and crackers in the afternoon. At times the one and only friendly Inn keeper "Wayne" will attend with interesting stories for all. Later in the evening one can smell the aroma of fresh baked delicious cookies in the hallways. Which are in a cookie jar on the table at the end of your floor.
If I recall..the darling girl that works at the front desk, Ann, brings a bit of Alice in wonderland to welcome you!
The location is the best street...with all nearby. Resturants, the square, trolly, shopping, etc. Nearby is fab restaurant Italian, Fino s ...best desert Zabaglione!!! Now that's another review !!! Enjoy.

We stayed here 2 nights and wished it could have been longer. Can't praise it enough! Room, location, staff - everything was fabulous. It's just a few strides from Union Square with the wonderful shops and restaurants. Tour buses start in the square and you're able to pick up a famous trolley car - who can go to San Francisco and not go on a trolley car? Our room was so comfortable with a large bed and tastefully decorated bathroom. Elegant dressing gowns were also supplied. ALL the staff were attractive, very presentable, personable and friendly - so much different than lots of other hotels. After a bit of reluctance (by OH!) we went along to the cheese and wine reception each evening and met a few delightful people. Got quite tipsy the first night! They also gave us recommendations for restaurants which we followed and enjoyed lovely meals at both. So very useful. We found this hotel on Tripadvisor and if we are ever lucky enough to return to San Francisco we'll stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay

Dear Guest,
We are so pleased you enjoyed our tastefully decorated and comfortable rooms as well as our wonderful staff, who are always eager to assist our guests. Our location just off Union Square is indeed convenient and central to all the attractions San Francisco has to offer as well as the trolley cars and plenty of dining and shopping options. I was also pleased to read that you enjoyed our complimentary evening Wine and Cheese Reception as well. We would be the lucky ones if we had the pleasure of hosting you when you return to the Inn at Union Square.

Perfect hotel if you dont have a car. Never slept on a more comfy bed. All staff were lovely and helpful.

The only downer is there is no restaurant. If there had been this would have been the perfect hotel. It is however right in the middle of San Fran, close to all major attractions.

I highly recommend it.
