We found the Inn on TripAdvisor, and were pleasantly surprised by it. Small, somewhat dated, but with all the touches that make a few days in a new city interesting. Advice, courtesy, and service were all appreciated. We were even contacted after we returned home. Central to everything this is a great boutique hotel where we will certainly stay again. (and they love children!)

I was lucky enough to have a couple of spare days in San Francisco on a recent business trip to the US, and staying here helped me make the most of those days. If a small hotel is to compete effectively with the big names it has to have something special and this place has a few things - exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, really high-quality rooms, excellent bed, free and high-speed wifi. It's also in a good location near to the very busy Union Square, but my room on the sixth floor was lovely and quiet. I didn't have much of a view, and you should be aware that it doesn't have a proper dining room - you either take breakfast back to your room, or sit in the little area at the end of the corridor. But these are minor points only. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Probably best to be away from the kitchen/sitting area at the end of each corridor

Located literally just a few steps away from Union Square; the perfect location for access to public transportation including the cable car. Daily wine reception ideal opportunity to exchange travel tips with other guests while sampling local wines (soft drinks available). Can't speak highly enough of Front desk staff really knowledge and helpful. Wide selection available for the continental breakfast; option to take away for private in-room breakfast.

On a trip with my parents, I had booked another hotel up the street, but after a short visit into the Inn at Union Square, I realized there couldn't possibly be a better place to stay. The hotel innkeeper and staff all won me over in numerous ways. They are genuinely warm and welcoming, and they make customer service their top priority. The room was comfortable, clean and already had everything that one might anticipate needing when away from home. If you need four pillows, you have four (extremely comfortable) pillows. If you need feather pillows, you have feather pillows. If you need cotton swabs, there they are! In addition to that, the hotel goes out of its way to supply you with little things that make a big difference. Complimentary wine, cheese and crackers every evening before dinner in the lobbies on several of the floors. I met numerous other guests and heard many delightful stories from all over the world. What a fabulous idea! Also, the hotel staff bake cookies fresh every day and leave them in the lobby of each floor later in the evening. Nice touch! Every little thing was perfect. Not just perfect, but above and beyond perfect. It was not just a place to throw my things for a few days, it was a place I actually looked forward to returning to every day. I will never stay anywhere else in San Francisco. And I suggest that all you Trip Advisor readers book a room here immediately. You will not regret it!

Room Tip: Junior Suites have smaller beds, but a lovely sitting room with extra tv. The sitting room is on the...

This is an excellent place to stay in the city. Love the room and service. Its a little pricy and my room had no view (I mean a view of a brick wall) but I would definitely stay again. They are very accommodating and the bed was superb! I was on business so didn't care about the view but if you go ask for a room with a better view.
I particularly loved the sitting room in the second floor - hang out have a coffee, read the paper.

Room Tip: Ask for a view...

Coming directly from a bed & breakfast in Napa, my husband and I were prepared for a downgrade in personalized service when we arrived in San Francisco. Imagine our surprise when we were greeted by name at check-in (by the lovely Anne!) and immediately made to feel at home. We were amazed by the Inn's warmth and hospitality from the start and continuously impressed until our check-out. From Anne to Omar and the other staff, everyone was so welcoming, accommodating, and friendly. Our room (which was upgraded for our anniversary!) was fairly spacious and very clean. The free WI-fi and nightly turn-down service were fantastic perks. The best one, however, was the FREE HAPPY HOUR each night. This isn't a shabby happy hour-- we're talking fantastic wine and delicious cheese. Add this to the daily breakfasts and nightly cookies left out and you cannot go wrong with this choice.

And the night before we left, the front desk called to make sure we were all set to get to the airport. Talk about feeling taken care of!

The Inn at Unions Square is amazing!! We will definitely be back when we find ourselves in San Francisco again :) Thank you!!!
