“Generally great, a few disappointments”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

THis hotel is like all Fairmont properties - grand, lavish and polished. We stayed here for 6 nights in July and had a great time - the location is perfect for both trips into the city and for trips to the wharf etc, with very good transport links around the hotel. The staff are polite and courteous and as you'd expect the food is also of very high standard.

The only disappointment/frustration I had was with the turn-down service, which was inconsistent and pretty shoddy at times. It does sound petty and like I'm nit-picking, however I travel a lot, and stay at a wide variety of hotels and this is the first on where I've actively noticed the housekeeping service was not great.

It's not going to affect the quality of your stay, but for a top-tier hotel with top-tier pricing, you expect a top-tier package overall.

Room Tip: Free wifi if you're a President's club member, otherwise it's $14 per day, which is insa...

Thank you for commenting on your recent stay with us. I'm thrilled to hear you had such a nice time and found the location perfect. We pride ourselves on service, so it's great to hear your comments about the team. That being said, I apologize for your experience with turn down service. I've shared your feedback with the housekeeping staff and hopefully will improve upon our service levels. Thanks again and we hope to welcome you again in the near future.
Sincerely,
Lucas Schumacher

Wow! will be the first words out of your mouth. The friendly doorman will help you with your luggage as you enter the very impressive lobby, so lush, so classy, so 5 star looking. The front desk agents are friendly, informative and make sure all your needs are taken care of. The concierge will always suggest great restaurants and help you get those hard to get Alcatraz tickets. The rooms are gorgeous and huge with all the amenities you will ever need. The hotel is gorgeous and in a central location. I love how the Grace Cathedral and Hunnigton park are just accross the street. The food in the lobby is fresh and delicious , my cocktail was perfect. I love just chilling In the lobby in those big comfy chairs. Yes, you feel like you're on vacation in this hotel. Excellent customer service and everything you need at your fingertips thank you!!

Room Tip: Only the 18th floor and up has a golden gate view but all the rooms are fab

Thank you for your extremely kind words about the hotel. We are thrilled to hear it, particularly from such a seasoned traveler as yourself. We feel very fortunate to have such engaging doormen as the first impression guests receive when they arrive. I'm also pleased to hear of the service you experienced from all of our colleagues, as this is what can separate a good stay from a great one. Our lobby is truly grand and a perfect spot to hang out and people watch and imagine guests from days gone by. Thanks again for your kind words and we hope to welcome you again in the future.
Sincerely,

Great hotel to stay when in San Fran. Beautiful Lobby, very grand. Fitness center is awesome. Convenient to both the Bart and Trolley to get around. Not far from Chinatown as well. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Be careful with room bar, if you even touch the items the sensor picks up that you used the item. Our room bill had charges from even the vibrations of taking out the Keurig to make coffee in the morning. Great service at front desk and concierge. Extremely helpful and courteous. Awesome views from our room, and we got a great rate on the internet, including free parking. Would definitely stay here again if we could get the deal we did.

In the past, I have been let down by some of the Fairmont properties in Canada - while their settings are scenic, the rooms are very dated in some and service not always the greatest. I am pleased to say that wasn't the case with Fairmont San Francisco. Superb location with great vistas all around and very classy, spacious and comfortable rooms. The huge walk-in closet was a nice surprise. Service was excellent and front desk staff and bellmen were always happy to answer all the questions coming from someone new to the area. Very central with the California cable car access practically on the doorstep or the Powell - Mason/Hyde lines a block away. That said, if you have asthma issues like me, take it slow and steady while walking as the climb to the hotel from most directions is fairly steep - small price to pay for the great views and a superb experience.

Thank you for commenting on your recent stay with us and for being such a loyal Fairmont customer! I'm sorry to hear you've been let down by some of our sister properties, but pleased to hear you had such a nice stay with us. We feel quite fortunate to be located atop Nob Hill and afforded such stunning views of the City and the Bay. I'm pleased to hear you found service excellent as we feel this is what truly differentiates us from our competition. Thanks again for your kind words and we hope to welcome you again in the future.
Sincerely,

San Francisco's crown jewel. Hotel located easy distance from all major attractions. Corner rooms have great views. Join the President's club, it's free and you get free wifi and a lot of other perks. Staff is well trained, and always exceptionally nice. Take the time to look at the vintage photo's that hang on the hall way walls. I stay here for business but wake up feeling like I am on a vacation.

Room Tip: Corner rooms facing the bay have breath taking views.

my sweetheart decided to treat my daughter and grandson (and us) to a night at the Fairmont while we explored the city, before they flew home the next day. we all enjoyed the hotel, an amazing breakfast (spinach and heirloom tomato eggs benedict, mmm) and the best cup of coffee in the whole wide world. the beds and pillows are the ultimate in comfortable, the staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and not stuffy in the least. we had a beautiful city view from our room (614), rode the cable car a block away (a highlight for my 5 year old grandson) ate a block or so away at nob hill cafe, (recommended by staff). you know, san francisco is just a great town - and I m not a city person ! the only negative I have is that they want to charge you for wifi unless youre in the presidents club, and I found that to be totally out of line for what you pay for a room. even crappy hotels give you free wifi.

Room Tip: I seriously doubt you could get a bad room here...

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at the hotel. It sounds like you and your family had a wonderful stay with us and were able to experience much of the property in a short time. I can certainly appreciate your feelings about breakfast in Laurel Court. It has been our signature restaurant since the hotel opened and still provides an excellent experience for our guests. The cable car is a great way to explore the City and we are actually located at the only point in the City where all the cable car lines intersect. Thanks again and we hope to welcome you and your family back in the near future.
Sincerely,
Lucas Schumacher
