“Very warm, comfortable, centrally located and tasteful accommodation”
Reviewed November 17, 2010

The Shell Donatello surpassed our expectations. From the warm greeeting of the bell person and desk clerk, to the spacious, tastefully decorated room with a very comfortable bed, to the jazz in the restaurant, to the quiet elegance of the entire building, not a thing was left undone. The cleaning staff were excellent, thourough and respectful, the concierge very helpful, the staff throughout the resort were just so helpful and courteous. We never found a thing to complain about, and believe me my partner and I travel a lot, probably 60 nights a year in hotels/resorts/condos and this was maybe the most trouble free stay I ever had. Amenities in the room were top notch, free wireless worked flawlessly and all our excursion planning was assisted by a very knowledgeabel staff who know the city and the area. A week was only 32,000 RCI points, a very good price for such a top flight resort in the heart of Union Square in San Francisco. Alcatraz was great, so was Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf. We highly recommend the Donatello and will return there in the future.

Fantastic location. Very close to Union Square and all the shopping. We took a long scenic walk to Pier 39 and took the cable car back. Staff was excetionally friendly and attentive. The only critisism is the house wine at happy hour. Great stay. We would definetly stay there again with out a doubt.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Donatello Hotel in San Francisco on November 6-9, 2010. It has the perfect location next to Union Square, the Cable Cars and Chinatown and the service is strictly first-class. The staff was thoroughly helpful and friendly from the moment I arrived on Saturday to my departure early Tuesday morning when the bell captain hailed a cab for me and got me to the Amtrak station on time. The price can’t be beat given the location of the hotel and the clean, spacious, well-appointed room with all the conveniences. Unlike the pricey high rises in the area, The Donatello remains close enough to earth so I could enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds of downtown San Francisco from my perch on the ninth floor. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve already recommended The Donatello to family and friends and I hope to be back again soon.

I usually stay in the Financial District and I think on future business trips I will stay closer to the Tenderloin and Union Square where the Donatello is located, there is so much going on. However, I am not sure that this would be my hotel of choice.
The rooms are fine but the color palette, TV and amenities are all a little dated. Mustard orange and powder blue, hard candies in a jar, carpet circles for me to play with on the floor, I felt like I was at my Grandma's house in Detroit.
The room does have a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot and free Wi-Fi (although it is a bit slow). The staff was gracious and the parking was reasonable for San Fran.
If you do stay here, check out the Hidden Vine across the street. It's a real find.

We stayed at The Donatello for our first visit to San Francisco for one week - October 31 to November 7, 2010. Perfect from arrival to departure. We were greated by staff when we were dropped off by the shuttel from the airport at the front doors of the Donatello with a friendly enthusiasm I have never quite experienced before. Our room was clean, bright and comfortable. The location of the hotel on the corner of Mason and Post was amazing. Walk out the front doors and you are right there in heart of the City. Down the street from Union Square, and a short cab, cable car, trolly or F train to everywhere else. Cabs go right by the hotel all day and night. We found the cabs to be quick, cheap, friendly drivers and always available. We had a great meal at The Donatello restaurant Zingari and enjoyed the Jazz bar and entertainment on the mesazine floor of the hotel. Walked half a block down Mason to Biscuits and Blues one night for a really good meal and an awesome blues band. Toured the San Francisco Opera House Friday morning and then went back to see Madam Butterfly that evening. We did all the SF tourist stuff from The Donatello, including the bus tour to Golden Gate Bridge, boat to Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf and walked the various neighbourhoods of a truly amazing city. Bottom line, when we go back to San Francisco we will definately look forward to another stay at The Donatello.

This hotel is centrally located near Union Square but is quiet (with windows shut). It is adequately eqipped for self-catering and is very comfortably furnished and fitted out.The staff are responsive and pleasant. I enjoyed staying there and would recommend it to others who like to be independent. The only negative was a hassly ride to the airport with the airport shuttle service they use.
