“More Than Location Going For It.”
Reviewed December 19, 2009

We stayed at The Donatello Hotel as part of our Shell Timeshare week. This was the second half of a 10 day vacation. Since Shell has several locations in San Francisco, choosing The Donatello was mostly because of its location, right off Union Square on Post Street. From check in through check out, our stay was excellent. The staff greeted us warmly even though we arrived early, and stowed our bags for us until later in the day when our room would be ready. Our room was called a studio, but had sufficient room for us, our stuff, the half kitchen tucked into one wall, and space for us to move around without bumping into any of it. Each night, the turndown service treated us to a chocolate on the pillow. What could be bad about that? On the top floor, there was a spa, lounge, and access to the roof that went all the way around the building to offer great views of the city. The Consierge was knowledgeable, helpful and fun to chat with. The desk staff and bellmen also knew how to help us, or just pass the time of day. Over all, our stay was delightful. The only bump in the stay was trouble with the cable tv, but that was fixed in short order. I'd go back in a blink.

Have never stayed at the Donatello before, but saw their ad in the Pink Section of the Chronicle and was impressed with the rate and the fact parking was included. Was especially pleased with the convenience to shopping.etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bellmen were always there to summon a cab when we needed one. The desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. When I checked out I made a reservation for an overnight stay in January.

We were so pleased at our choice for our trip and overnite stay. Being able to park without a charge was a great incentive, and helped to make the Donatello our choice. We had never stayed before. Your staff made us feel welcomed, and we enjoyed the free coffee in the Club with the wiew. We will definitley return. As native San Franciscans we enjoyed our short visit.

My wife and I visit San Francisco frequently, usually twice a year, and the Donatello is the best value we have ever found. The service from check-in through check-out was warm, friendly, and efficient. Our large corner room was full of light and large, basically a suite. It contained all the amenities we could ask for: tv, internet, refrigerator, microwave, dishes, wine glasses, coffee maker (with good coffee), phone, radio, CD player, and so on. The linens and towels were luxurious, what one expects from a hotel charging two or three times what we paid. The Donatello has a restaurant and a small piano bar. We used the latter and enjoyed that, too. Our Tanqueray martinis were about $10 each, significantly less that we are accustomed to in our home town (Miami Beach) or bars we typically visit in NYC or SF. And of course the hotel is about a block from Union Square and a short walk to the Powell St BART stop. What a wonderful establishment.

Only a block from Union Sqare, the perfect place to stay for great shopping. The decor was very nice and up to date. My room was large, very comfortable, and well laid out. I look froward to going back to San Francisco and stay at the Donatello

Just spent 2 nights here to enjoy some city culture and shopping. Great location for both!
The staff is very friendly and attentive and the head concierge knows about all the restaurants nearby.
Nice fitness center with sauna and co-ed jacuzzi too.
Had a very good dinner at the hotel restuarant. the creamy polenta appetizer was divine and big enough for an entree serving.
The only negative, the continental breakfast for $10pp was less than impressive. Many good cafes and restuarants within a block.

Our presence at the wine and cheese tasting that night dropped the average age of the room by half.... and we're in our 40's!! Place was nice enough, nothing noteworthy except for most of the guests being in their 80's.

First thing you'll see when you enter the room is a hidious bed spread on the bed. Didn't want to even sit on it thinking how old and dirty it could be. Thankfully, later that evening, hotel staff folds it away and stashes it in the closet. Actually, made the room suprisingly nicer once it was gone.

Nothing to complain about, but nothing to brag about either.
