Pros: very comfortable hostel, nice beds, good security, wifi works in the rooms, decent location, very functional lockers with chargers inside, bed-site lights and chargers, good breakfast (apparently - I never made it...) and helpful staff with recommendations.

cons: some of the streets around the hostel are not that nice but bear in mind that San Fran is full of homeless people.

This hostel was very noisy. There was always loud music thumping.

There were shady people continually hanging around the hostel front doors. There was the constant smell of pot.

The showers were unclean, and weren't very warm.

Do not stay in an economy room. They are right next to the social rooms.

This is by far the best US hostel I've personally stayed at (including about a dozen other American cities and other San Francisco hostels). I brought a group of students I coach up to San Francisco, and Brandon and his team helped us out when we were in a real bind with unwavering professionalism and pleasantness. They helped us book our rooms, helped us store our bags, and helped us get a shuttle back to the airport when we were running late. The hostel itself is very clean and well maintained, and I wish other hostels had the "pods" for sleeping in the dorm rooms, which include an electrical outlet and convenient shelf as well as metal screening that blocks out light and noise. The hostel is also full of other amenities, like a study lounge, movie room, large kitchen and good breakfast as well as a lounge that becomes a bar (for the adults, not the kids).

In short, if you are staying in San Francisco, you can't go wrong staying here.

the location of the hostel was ideal; situated in downtown san fran meant we were close to all the shops, restaurants and bars. shuttles were also available, meaning we were able to explore the centre of san fran easily. the hostel itself was friendly, and provided a lot of entertainment (we stayed on the 4th july and the hostel threw a party with food and beverages). the rooms were fairly clean, and so were the shower rooms. for breakfast, customers were able to make their own pancakes. tea and coffee was also provided. overall, the hostel was not the cheapest ($40 a night), but for the price it was worth it!

We were looking around online for a place to stay in San Francisco, and everything seemed quite expensive for our budget. This place was recommended by a friend so we chose to stay here. Even if the price was somewhat higher than other places we have been to, it was not so bad for SF. The good thing is that rooms and bathrooms were clean during our stay, staff was helpful and friendly and not pushing tourst attractions on you. Actually they were helping us getting around cheapest possible. It was also a lot of facilities at the place (like a movie room, big kitchen, library room etc.), but the best thing was that it was easy to meet people and have fun. The hostel arranged an event for the guests everyday, which was terrific if you travel alone or as a small group. The staff were friendly and let us use all their facilities (e.g. movie room) even after our check out while we waited for airport pickup. It is located close to Union Square, where a lot of nightlife and shopping opportunities are located. Not many bad things to say about the hostel, except that the pancakes for breakfast were not good so we bought our own breakfast instead.
