“One to avoid....”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Bid on a Fisherman's Wharf Hotel on Priceline and ended up here at $270 per night. The location is excellent...but sadly that is all this place has going for it.

This is simply a tired property whose owner has not kept it up to standards. Frankly I am surprised the Sheraton brand has allowed this property to keep it's flag. Sometimes it's the little things that matter, for example...one elevator not working, printer not working in the business centre (had to cross the street to the Radisson to print a boarding pass), 1980's aqua blue interiors (this is not Miami Vice), $12 for a mixed drink in the lobby bar, $16 per day for wi-fi in your room, tiny bathrooms, multiple hallways think rats maze with only one bank of elevators. Plus they relegated us to a back hall on the 3rd floor (Priceline).

If this was $100 / night cheaper - i would have been more satisfied. Tip to the owner - spend some money on your property. My advice..go down the street to the Argonaut Hotel.

Dear Doghouse66, thank you for the detailed review of your recent stay with us and my apologies we missed the mark with our recent renovation. We are currently working on our guest elevators, however are careful to only take one of the five elevators out of service at a time until we transition into our off season. I was pleased you were able to obtain a discount, however our rates are even more affordable this month through February, so I hope you will consider returning soon. Take care and warm regards,

This was the first stop on our trip down the west coast. From the minute we arrived at the hotel the staff could not have been more welcoming. The only two things i can find to moan about was our room was on the second floor which we thought was great but once we got to the second floor it was about a 10 minute walk to our room! And secondly was that the wifi was only available in the lobby but you could get it in the room at a cost.

Our room was modern, bright spacious and very clean. We were two young girls travelling together and we had two large double beds so we had a bad each that was quite possibly the most comfortable bed in the world!

The hotel is in a fantastic location. I'd recommend anyone stay in fisherman's wharf as there is more around the area than union square. We were a short walk from the piers and some fantastic fish restaurants as well as souvenir shops and bike renting shops.

Great hotel, great location. Couldn't fault it. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would stay here again! Thank you for being so welcoming and starting our trip with a bang!

A one, three, or five day bus/ cable car/ tram pass is essential in this city and this hotel is only a five minute walk from one of the terminals that connects them all. ( We paid $21 for 3 consecutive day pass, which was great value ) The hotel was fine, for what little time we spent there, after all, why would you stay in with San Francisco to explore?? On arrival we mentioned it was our 25th wedding anniversary and they promptly sent up a bottle of bubbly on ice to our room and also one for our friends who were accompanying us on the trip! Looking at other reviews for this hotel, it seems opinions vary, especially on the value for money aspect, but I think it's basically supply and demand. Yes, the Wifi room charges were high but free in the lobby. We found the concierge very helpful when sourcing a Napa Valley trip. Rooms were nice enough, coffee machine, comfy bed and pillows, plenty of towels and very clean. Only complaint was no fridge, but there was an ice machine along the hall. To conclude, it was a fabulous holiday. Must sees, apart from the obvious main landmarks of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf are; the Golden Gate Park and Japanese Garden, Haight Ashbury for hippy shops and my husbands personal favourite the Castro District where you will find the Lucky 13 bar. This Punk and Hard Rock themed gem of a bar, serves the best Bloody Mary in San Fran, as well as 30+ beers to choose from, with samplers too. Try Sears off Union Square for breakfast - delicious, best meal of the holiday.

Room Tip: Don't be shy to request more coffee etc..only basic rations provided.

Although I would return here simply because I prefer Sheraton chain, it was outdated and its infrastructure was below the standards usually expected at a Sheraton. Walking distance is about 8-10 blocks from touristy areas. Close to supermarket is nice.

I read the article from rcrobman regarding "Plastic Glasses". We have just returned and these are exactly my sentiments. Since when do you pay top dollar for a so named 4 star hotel , to have plastic glasses.

How Sheraton can put their name to this hotel is beyond me. Concierge services were non-exsistent the individual in charge seemed to be welded to his laptop, no refrigerator in the room and $17 a day for room Wi-Fi. Location sure it has , but look elsewhere don't waste your money

Dear Greg_N, many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. I do apologize you found our concierge to be concentrating on his laptop when you arrived at the desk. I have passed on your comment to the company that maintains this service and the manager is planning on reviewing this with his entire team to insure that impression is not left with any other guests going forward. I am also sorry you were put off by the wrapped to-go glasses in our guestrooms. It is a Sheraton standard that we provide this as many guests across the brand have expressed an interest in to-go cups and prefer this convenience. I do hope you can plan a return visit soon and again my thanks for staying with us. Take care and warm regards,

Was a good hotel to stay in. Great location but the area is very dirty and a lot of homeless and beggars. We didn't go out much at night as it is not that safe. But if you stick to we're all the other tourists are and don't stray you should be fine. The hotel did, have a big gap under the doors to connecting rooms, not so good if you have noisy neighbours. We stuffed towels and pillows against the doors and this solved the problem

Dear Diana285, many thanks for the 4-star review and for your comment regarding a gap under the door of your connecting room. We just recently installed door sweeps on all our connecting doors to minimize noise leaks, however it appears we missed one in your case, so our Engineering department has located that room and corrected the gap. I certainly appreciate your bringing this to our attention and hope you can plan a return visit soon. Take care and warm regards,

I cannot tell you the last time I stayed in a hotel that gave me plastic glasses to drink out of? Certainly not one that charges the type of money that this hotel charges! To top that off the first two nights we stayed in a room that was at the end of one of the blocks of rooms that was so noisy that I doubt very much that we got more than a couple hours sleep both nights. In their defence the hotel did move us to another room as soon as one became available. The hotel itself certainly has no problem charging it's guests for things that other far less costly hotels give away. For example we were told that the cost for Wifi in the rooms was $16.95/day PER DEVICE - since there were 3 of us staying there that would of been over 50/day or over $300 for the length of our stay. Don't even think about parking a car there because at 45/night it will certainly add to your bill no doubt! How about $1.54 for a local call and if you go over 30 minutes another 10 cents per minute! How about the American Breakfast (bacon and eggs, toast and coffee) for over $20.00.
This hotel has only one thing going for it - the location - one block off of Fisherman's Wharf - other than that it lacks most amenities that we take for granted.

Room Tip: Make sure that you request a room in the inner courtyards so that you are no where near the street...

Dear Rcrobman, many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. I do apologize you were put off by the wrapped to-go glasses in our guestrooms. It is a Sheraton standard that we provide this as many guests across the brand have expressed an interest in to-go cups and prefer this convenience. Also, Sheraton recently changed their standard to allow us to only charge one base internet access fee for up to 3 devices in a guestroom, so we are in the process of implementing this early at our hotel and will have that service in place in the next 30-60 days. I do hope you can plan a return visit soon and again my thanks for staying with us. Take care and warm regards,
